When you’re facing a serious injury, trauma, chronic joint pain, or the possibility of surgery, experience matters. So does having a physician who takes the time to make sure you understand what’s happening.

Dr. Charles Hightower is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with deep experience in joint replacement, orthopedic trauma and fracture care. Before joining Juneau Bone & Joint Center, he served as Chief of Orthopedics at Alaska Native Medical Center, where he helped develop joint replacement and trauma programs serving patients across Alaska.

And when patients talk about Dr. Hightower, they don’t just talk about his surgical skill. They talk about how thoroughly he explains their condition and options, how he listens to their concerns, and how comfortable they feel putting their care in his hands. Dr. Marco Wen specializes in helping patients understand the source of spine-related pain and treating it without surgery whenever appropriate. He is a board-certified spine physiatrist—a physician specializing in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation—with additional board certifications in Pain Medicine and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

His expertise includes comprehensive spine care, rehabilitation, diagnostic and therapeutic spine injections, electrodiagnostic testing, and other minimally invasive and medical approaches to treating spine conditions. Most importantly, his approach starts with the person experiencing the pain.

Celebrating 11 Years of Shawna at JBJC!

For 11 years, Shawna Durling has been an important part of the JBJC team. As our HR and Administrative Specialist, Shawna does so much behind the scenes to support our staff, keep things running smoothly, and make JBJC a great place to work. Outside of work, Shawna loves spending time with her grandson and her Yorkie, Oliver, going to the movies, getting outside, and taking walks.

Help us welcome Chelsie Coffman, PA-C, our new Primary Care provider! Chelsie is joining us here at the all-new Cedar Clinic at JBJC, our new primary care service offering.

Chelsie brings a decade of experience living and working across Southeast Alaska, with a career rooted in rural and remote medicine. She has cared for patients in communities without road access, often hundreds of miles from the nearest hospital or healthcare facility. That experience has given Chelsea a broad approach to primary care. She helps patients manage chronic conditions, address urgent concerns, and navigate unexpected medical needs.

At the heart of her practice is a belief that patients should be active participants in their own healthcare. Chelsie is passionate about shared decision-making and helping people better understand their options so they can make informed choices that fit their lives. She has a particular interest in women’s health, including reproductive health and contraceptive care.

After working throughout Alaska, Chelsie chose to make Juneau home for many of the same reasons we love it here: the mountains, the small-town community, and the endless opportunities to get outside and get involved.

On a beautiful summer day, there is a good chance you’ll find her hiking or paddleboarding with her dog, Captain. We’re so happy to welcome Chelsie to the Juneau Bone & Joint Center team and to expand access to primary care for our community.

🎉 Happy JBJC Anniversary, Wannarat! 🎉

If you know Wannarat Giron, LMT, you know she brings a whole lot of joy wherever she goes. Funny, bubbly and full of energy, Wannarat is one of those people who simply makes the day a little brighter.

She also happens to have an uncanny superpower: every year at the JBJC Christmas party, she somehow wins the “guess how many are in the jar” game. Candies, trinkets, whatever we put in there—apparently Wannarat just knows.

That intuition serves her well in her work, too. As one of JBJC’s licensed massage therapists, Wannarat provides individualized, one-on-one care to help our patients reduce pain, improve relaxation and support their overall recovery and wellness.
