What does a Community Support Worker look like at SCBS?

A Community Support Worker is someone who advocates for an individual's independence by supporting them through their activities of daily living. This may include: finding safe housing, budgeting, creating a routine, meal planning, grocery shopping, coordination of health appointments, connecting them to resources, and social integration.

ACT staff recently took clients to the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo for a fun-filled day of exploring and learning. Everyone enjoyed exploring the many exhibits throughout the zoo, including gorillas, monkeys, orangutans, fish, bats, sharks, stingrays, alligators, crocodiles, penguins, and more.

The group also enjoyed riding the tram, which provided a nice break from walking while giving everyone the opportunity to see even more of the zoo. The outing offered plenty of exercise, fresh air, and opportunities to enjoy each other’s company.

We wrapped up the day with lunch at the zoo and left with great memories of a wonderful day together.

This year, we have a new selection of long sleeve shirts, sweaters, and sweatshirts that are gently used and ready for you! We invite you to come grab some comfy clothing in preparation for the upcoming chilly months. 🍃

As always, every purchase made in our store goes directly back to the clients for exciting events like parties, hygiene products, and other fun things! Our hours are Mon, Tue, Wed, 1pm-4pm, closed on all federally recognized holidays.

Hastings Day Rehab took time to enjoy the Hastings Museum, which was a first-time experience for some of the clients.

Unity House went to the Nebraska State Fair 2026 with clients. We spent our time in the Expo building, looking at the animals and trying tasty treats! It was a hot day, but a day well spent.

ACT had an awesome time taking our clients to the Nebraska State Fair! They enjoyed exploring the many unique vendors, checking out the livestock—including three adorable pregnant pigs—and enjoying the great variety of food choices. After the fair, we continued the fun with a creative, fun-filled craft activity. It was a wonderful day full of fun, learning, and great memories!

South Central Behavioral Services' Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) rehabilitation team provides individuals with serious mental health needs the opportunity to build skills, increase independence, and successfully live in the community. Through individualized, hands-on support, ACT helps individuals develop daily living skills, improve medication and symptom management, strengthen social and vocational skills, and work toward personal goals. The rehabilitation approach focuses on each person’s strengths and abilities, promoting recovery, stability, self-sufficiency, and an improved quality of life while reducing the need for crisis services or hospitalization.

Last Friday, Unity House clients made the most of the cooler weather with a fishing trip to Yanney Park. It was great to see those with more fishing experience helping their peers learn the ropes, making it a fun day of teamwork and encouragement. And yes...a fish was caught!

We love seeing our clients build skills, support one another, and enjoy time outdoors together.
