Post 3 – HB 195: Welcome to the Physician Associate Era

🎉 History has been made in Alaska!

As a PA-owned practice, we’re incredibly proud to celebrate the passage of HB 195, officially recognizing “Physician Associate” as the title of our profession in Alaska.

Alaska is now just the 6th state in the nation to adopt the title.

While our commitment to patient care has never changed, our title now better reflects the education, responsibility, and role Physician Associates play on today’s healthcare team.

This isn’t just a name change—it’s recognition of how our profession has evolved over the past 50+ years and the vital role PAs play in improving access to high-quality healthcare across Alaska.

Thank you to the advocates, legislators, and healthcare leaders who helped make this historic achievement possible.

🌎 Another huge step forward for healthcare in Alaska!

As a PA-owned practice, we’re proud to celebrate the signing of HB 110, making Alaska the 26th state to join the PA Licensure Compact.

What does this mean?

It allows qualified Physician Associates to more easily practice across participating states, helping improve recruitment, workforce flexibility, and patient access to care.

For a state as large and rural as Alaska, this is especially important. It helps remove unnecessary barriers and strengthens our ability to bring highly qualified providers to the communities that need them most.

It’s another investment in the future of healthcare for all Alaskans.

🏔️ Historic news for Alaska healthcare!

As a PA-owned practice, we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the signing of SB 89 into law.

For decades, Alaska PAs have provided high-quality care in communities across our state. SB 89 modernizes our practice laws by transitioning from a supervision model to a collaboration model, recognizing the education, training, and clinical judgment of Physician Associates while maintaining accountability through the Alaska State Medical Board.

This legislation removes outdated barriers and allows PAs to better serve patients—especially in communities where access to healthcare is limited.

This is a tremendous win for patients, providers, and the future of healthcare in Alaska.

Thank you to the Alaska Academy of PAs, Representative Andrew Gray, Governor Mike Dunleavy, and everyone who worked tirelessly to make this historic legislation a reality.
