Verification against what the veterinarian prescribed. Careful measurement and preparation by a pharmacist. A quality check before it ever leaves the building. None of it happens quickly, because none of it is supposed to.

It is tempting to think of Lyme disease as a warm weather concern, but signs can still turn up well into fall.

None of these are requirements we set for ourselves. They are outside standards we chose to be held to, on top of the ones every pharmacy already has to meet.

Show season, breeding season, the quiet stretch of winter in between. Whatever season a practice is in, the patients do not stop needing individualized care.

That is the constant behind everything we do. Not a specific season or a specific discipline, but the horse in front of the veterinarian, and the prescription written for that one patient.

By the time the weather actually turns, the horses already heading into winter conditioning have been at it for weeks.

Coat changes, adjusted turnout, and shifting workloads all come with their own considerations, and treatment plans sometimes need to shift along with them. If a patient's medication needs change as the season does, we are ready to compound to what the new plan calls for.

No two patients respond to medication the same way, and compounding exists because of that fact.

Strength, form, and flavor can all be adjusted based on what an individual horse actually needs, not what happens to be available on a shelf. Our pharmacists work from the specifics your veterinarian provides for each patient.

It is a more involved process than filling a standard prescription. We think that is the point.
