Today we remember the tragedy of 9/11. The attacks killed 2,977 people. Families were forever changed, and our nation, and the world, would never be the same again. We remember and we honor, and we will never forget!

(The walk-in clinic will be open from 8:30am-11:30am on Saturday, September 5th for sick visits only.)

AF is not uncommon, affecting 4% of persons over age 60 and 8% of persons over age 80. Risk factors include other types of coronary artery disease, heart failure, heart valve abnormalities, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. As with Mr. Stevens, it sometimes comes to light when a patient develops symptoms of fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, palpitations, or feeling faint. Other times, I notice it incidentally while carrying out a physical on a patient with no particular symptoms. Patients may notice while taking their own pulse or having it recorded by an automatic blood pressure cuff. With the increasing use of smart watches, a person may be alerted to an irregular or rapid heart rate which turns out to be AF.

Today is Glioblastoma Awareness Day. Today we honor those fighting this devastating disease, we remember those who have lost their battle, and we advocate for research into finding a cure.

Glioblastoma (GBM), is one of the most aggressive, complex, treatment-resistant, and deadly cancers. GBM accounts for 48% of all primary malignant brain tumors, and the 5-year survival rate is only 6.8%. Raising awareness and funding research is critical to finding a cure.

“Ticks are a familiar part of outdoor life in Tennessee, especially from March through October. They can transmit infections that range from mild to serious. Most tick bites do not transmit disease, but tick-borne illnesses are increasing in Tennessee. Common tick-borne infections in Tennessee include Rocky Mountain spotted fever, ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease, and alpha-gal syndrome."
