Kristen Hill, age 50, of L’Anse, MI passed away on August 10, 2026. She was born in White Pine, MI on June 23, 1976. The daughter of Jean Hill and Dave Harris, she was raised in the loving home of Dr. Karl and Joan Hill.

Kristen was a free spirit with a love for animals, grew up showing horses, and created an animal sanctuary to care for over 100 cows, pigs, goats, chickens, horses, and more. Her compassion extended to the poor and homeless, and she was the kind of person who would give her last dollar to care for someone else.

She is survived by her daughter, Brialle Ringer; mother, Jean Hill; father, Dave Harris; aunts Gloria Hill (Gary Maki), Virginia Gruici, Mary Stafford, and Vita (Roy) Britz; uncles Karl (Mary) Hill and Tom (Maria) Hill; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. We pray she is free from any burdens she experienced on earth and is joyfully reunited with her best friend and grandma, Joan Hill, who passed away in March.

Rather than a formal funeral, the family gathered for an intimate celebration of life at the beach with white clothing, guided meditation, rose quartz crystals, and wildflowers to honor Kristen in a way that felt true to her.

May we all remember her when we dance wildly, laugh loudly, and cherish each day like children at play.

Diana L. Carlson, age 58 of L’Anse, MI passed away Friday, August 7, 2026 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, August 10, 2026 at the Zeba Community Hall, Zeba, MI. The family will greet friends at the Zeba Hall from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A feast will be held immediately following the celebration of life.

Susan L. Harden, age 59 of Watton, MI passed away Friday, July 24, 2026 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L'Anse, MI She was born in Hancock, Mi on February 14, 1967 the daughter of the late Donald and Shirley (Lantto) Maki. She graduated from Houghton High School in 1986. Susan had been employed at Bayside Village, L’Anse in the housekeeping department.

Susan was an avid Green Bay Packer and Red Wings fan, liked picking raspberries and she enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones.

Susan is survived by her daughter Autumn (Connor), sisters and brother Patricia, Teresa, Kevin, Mary, Kim, and Jennifer. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brothers Keith, Kenneth, and Kelly and her stepfather Loren.

A celebration of life visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse.

Dorothy Jane Mayo, age 88 of Baraga, MI passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Bayside Village, L’Anse with her loving family by her side. She was born in Baraga, MI on December 11, 1937 the daughter of the late Walfred and Pearl (Oja) Waara. Dorothy graduated from Baraga High School as co-salutatorian of the class of 1955. Dorothy married Robert P. Mayo on June 16, 1956 at St Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga. They were Baraga residents all of their lives. Robert passed away on December 10, 2000.

Dorothy was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Baraga and had been on the church council and had been treasurer. She held many positions as a secretary-bookkeeper. She was the first L’Anse and Baraga Community Schools secretary, and had worked at the Keweenaw Bay Tribal Center and as Officer Manager at Tribal Construction Company. Dorothy was secretary to the President of the former Commercial National Bank, L’Anse until she retired in December 2002. Following her retirement, she was elected as the Baraga Village Clerk and worked part time in the Village office for many years. She was treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary #444 for over 20 years, where she had also served as Chaplain, and had been treasurer of Baraga Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a member and secretary of Baraga County TRIAD, a member of Baragaland Senior Citizens and belonged to the L’Anse Babes Red Hatters.
