Therapists Specialty Spotlight 🌿

For Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, meet Rebeca Roqueni, MA, LMHCA β€” our Clinical Director and a therapist whose work begins with a different question: not "What's wrong with you?" but "What happened to you?"

Rebeca sees our responses to stress, loss, and trauma as natural adaptations, not flaws to fix. Her care integrates person-centered, multicultural, and liberation-focused frameworks, with somatic and nervous-system-aware approaches that help you rebuild safety, connection, and self-trust.

As a Latinx and Indigenous-identifying therapist of Yaqui descent, she brings deep awareness to how identity and belonging shape emotional health β€” and welcomes clients of all genders, sexualities, and relationship structures.

Ask a Therapist. πŸ’¬

We're opening the floor. Is there something you've always wanted to ask a therapist but never had the chance?

Maybe it's about setting boundaries, managing anxiety, knowing when it's "time" to start therapy, or what that first session is even like.

Whatever's on your mind β€” drop it in the comments below. 🌱

We'll gather your questions and answer some of them in an upcoming post. No question is too small, and chances are, if you're wondering it, someone else is too.

Ask away. ⬇️

Today is International Self-Care Day. 🌿

In our world, we talk about self-care constantly, but we want to be clear about what it actually means.

Self-care isn't a luxury, a splurge, or a productivity hack to help you do more. It's maintenance for a sustainable life.

It's rest, boundaries, connection, and yes, sometimes it's asking for support you can't give yourself.

That last one takes the most courage, and it's often the most important.

If reaching out is the self-care step you've been circling, consider this your gentle nudge. We're here, and we'd be honored to help. 🀍

When everything feels like too much, small tools can help you find your footing again.

🌿 Save these for a hard day:

(1) Name it out. Five things you can see, four you can hear, two you can touch β€” it pulls you back into the present moment.

(2) Lengthen your exhale. Breathe out longer than you breathe in; it signals safety to your nervous system.

(3) Anchor with touch. Place one hand on your chest and remind yourself: this feeling is real, but it's temporary, and it will pass. None of these replace support β€” but they can steady you until you reach it.

Share this with someone who might need it today. πŸ’š

Therapist Specialty Spotlight 🌿

In honor of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we're featuring Lan Le, LMHC, who specializes in culturally responsive care.

Here's why this matters: for clients who've felt unseen or misunderstood in past therapy, working with someone who truly gets your context can change everything. You spend less energy explaining who you are, and more energy actually healing.

Representation in the therapy room isn't a nice-to-have β€” it shortens the distance to trust, and trust is where the real work begins. Ready to find the right fit for you?

July is Disability Pride Month. πŸ’œ

Pride means being seen exactly as you are β€” and that includes the parts the world doesn't always see: chronic illness, neurodivergence, mental health conditions, the invisible things so many people are quietly asked to mask every day. Affirming care flips that script.

It meets you where you are instead of asking you to shrink, translate, or perform to be understood. You deserve support that treats your full experience as valid β€” because it is.

Tag someone who needs the reminder that they belong here, just as they are. 🫢

Meet the people behind CIAS. 🌱

This week, we're introducing our newest team member Katherine Afuola, MS, LMHC, SUDP, MPA, NCC β€” a licensed therapist here in Washington who walks alongside clients navigating some of life's most complex emotional terrain.

Katherine specializes in supporting people through depression, anxiety, trauma, and mood disorders, with a particular focus on women's mental health and midlife transitions. She's EMDR trained and also equipped to support substance use recovery, bringing a truly holistic lens to her work. What clients often notice first is the space she creates: compassionate, non-judgmental, and steady β€” a place to explore hard emotions, heal from the past, and rediscover a sense of purpose and self-love.

In her words, the work is collaborative: "Together, we'll help you build resilience and move toward the life you envision." 🀍
