✨ Provider Spotlight: Liesl Wyka, NP, CMO ✨

We are proud to recognize Liesl Wyka, NP, CMO, a dedicated provider and clinical leader at High Plains Community Health Center!

Liesl graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) in 2013 and is Board Certified in Family Medicine. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University and is a Certified Autism Specialist.

As both a provider and clinical leader, Liesl believes in partnering with patients so they can feel as well as they can, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Her approach goes beyond simply treating illness. She is passionate about supporting long-term wellness by understanding what matters most to each individual.

That means listening, setting shared goals, and connecting patients with the right care, knowledge, and resources to help them stay healthy and well.

🌟 Provider Spotlight: Dr. Sonia Grewal, DDS 🌟

This week, we're excited to shine the spotlight on Dr. Sonia Grewal, DDS, a valued member of the High Plains Community Health Center dental team for the past 17 years! 🦷💙

Dr. Grewal earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from New York University College of Dentistry in 2008 and joined High Plains Community Health Center shortly after completing her degree. Since then, she has dedicated her career to caring for individuals and families throughout our community.

Dr. Grewal is passionate about helping patients achieve healthy, confident smiles through personalized, compassionate dental care. She believes in getting to know her patients and providing care tailored to their individual needs and goals.

After 17 years at High Plains, Dr. Grewal has become an important part of the team and our community. We are grateful for the years of dedication and exceptional care she has provided to the families we serve!❤️

This week, we're excited to introduce Dr. Helen Iams, MD, the newest addition to the High Plains Community Health Center Main Clinic team!

With more than 20 years of experience in medicine, Dr. Iams is passionate about partnering with her patients and empowering them to become active participants in their own healthcare. She believes that great healthcare is a partnership—one where patients feel heard, informed, and involved in decisions about their health.

🏃‍♀️ Dr. Iams also brings extensive training in sports medicine and enjoys working with athletes of all levels—from experienced competitors to those who are simply getting started. Whether you're pursuing a personal fitness goal, managing a sports-related concern, or looking to improve your overall health, she is passionate about helping patients stay active and healthy.

This week, we're honored to recognize Dr. Gino Figlio, Board-Certified Pediatrician, whose dedication to children and families has made a lasting impact on Southeast Colorado for the past 30 years.

Since 1995, Dr. Figlio has been caring for children in Lamar and the surrounding communities, earning the trust of generations of families through his compassionate care, clinical expertise, and unwavering commitment to his patients.

As the only board-certified pediatrician in Southeast Colorado, Dr. Figlio provides an invaluable service to our region. From newborn checkups and well-child visits to treating childhood illnesses and supporting adolescents as they grow, he is committed to helping every child thrive.

One of the things families appreciate most about Dr. Figlio is his dedication to ensuring that children in our community have access to quality pediatric care. Even with a busy schedule, he works hard to welcome new patients whenever possible because he believes every child deserves exceptional healthcare close to home.

For three decades, Dr. Figlio has cared for generations of children, and our community is incredibly grateful for the compassion, expertise, and commitment he continues to bring to every patient and family he serves.

This week, we're honored to introduce James Kuemmerle, Director of Behavioral Health at High Plains Community Health Center.

With more than 30 years of experience in behavioral health, healthcare leadership, and community development, James has dedicated his career to improving access to compassionate, high-quality mental health services, especially in rural and underserved communities.

Before joining High Plains Community Health Center, James served as the Regional Behavioral Health Specialist for Colorado State University Extension, where he led behavioral health initiatives across rural and frontier Colorado. His work focused on expanding integrated behavioral health services, su***de prevention, healthy aging, agricultural behavioral health, workforce development, and addressing the social factors that impact health through strong community partnerships.

As our Director of Behavioral Health, James is passionate about ensuring individuals and families throughout southeast Colorado have access to the care they need, close to home. He believes that behavioral health is an essential part of overall wellness and is committed to building programs that support the whole person through compassionate, evidence-based care.

Whether it's strengthening partnerships, expanding services, or supporting patients on their mental health journey, James is dedicated to helping our communities thrive.

🌟 Provider Spotlight: Shelby Casper, FNP-C 🌟

This week, we're proud to introduce Shelby Casper, FNP-C, a hometown provider who is passionate about delivering personalized, compassionate care to the communities she has always called home.

Born and raised in Southeast Colorado, Shelby began her healthcare career as a nurse in 2012. Wanting to make an even greater impact in rural healthcare, she attended Regis University's first Rural and Underserved Family Nurse Practitioner Cohort, earning her FNP degree in 2018.

Since then, Shelby has dedicated her career to serving the people of Southeast Colorado. She has cared for patients through local hospital clinics and spent the past five years as the owner and provider of County Line Health Clinic in Wiley. Her deep roots in the area give her a unique understanding of the rural lifestyle and the healthcare needs of our communities.

Shelby believes in treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. She is passionate about identifying the root cause of health concerns and incorporates lifestyle education, preventive care, and natural treatment approaches whenever appropriate. By partnering with each patient, Shelby creates individualized care plans that empower people to take an active role in their health.

She enjoys caring for patients of all ages and every stage of life and has a special passion for supporting rural cancer patients through her work with the local oncology and hematology outreach program.
