Mid-Back Treatment May Reduce Shoulder Pain

Subacromial impingement is a shoulder condition in which the tendons of the rotator cuff become pinched between the top of the upper arm bone and the shoulder blade during movement, leading to pain and limited range of motion. A recent meta-analysis of data from twelve studies found that mobilization therapy applied to the mid-back to help restore scapular alignment resulted in improvements in pain and disability in subacromial impingement patients.

Part of our patient analysis when there are neck issues is determining whether cervical joints, thoracic joints, AND the shoulder blade have proper movement. Misalignment or lack of proper movement in any of the three will eventually lead to neck problems. Sea article below:

"Scapular Dyskinesis May Contribute to Neck Pain"

Among a group of 83 office workers with chronic neck pain, researchers observed that scapular dyskinesis—abnormal positioning or movement of the shoulder blade—was associated with greater neck disability. The findings suggest that altered shoulder mechanics may contribute to neck pain and functional limitation.
