As the new school year kicks off, Leadwood Fire Protection District wants to remind everyone in our community to STOP for school buses and stay extra vigilant during the morning and afternoon hours. 🚌🚨

With increased traffic and more students on the roads, please slow down, stay alert, and help keep our kids safe!

Sometimes you may drive by the firehouse in the evening and see the bay doors open, the lights on, and maybe some of our volunteers working inside or maybe it looks like no one is around. Don’t worry, we’re just working!

The Leadwood Fire Protection District is 100% volunteer, which means every one of our firefighters and personnel has a full-time job somewhere else. So, in the evenings and on weekends, they give their time to keep our firehouse and equipment ready to serve our community. And honestly, sometimes there’s nothing better than a summer evening work session at the firehouse!

So, if you see the bay doors open and our volunteers out there working, give us a wave! We’ll wave right back! 🔥 🚒 👨🏻‍🚒

Applicants must:
✅ Be 14-18 years of age
✅Live within the Leadwood Fire Protection District Service Area

How does it work?

1⃣ Once the application period closes on October 1st, all applicants with be contacted with information about the next steps.

2️⃣ A MANDATORY MEETING will then be scheduled for all selected applicants and their parents/guardians. This meeting will be an important opportunity to discuss the Junior Firefighter Program including expectations, responsibilities, safety, and what it means to be a part of the Leadwood Fire Protection District.

Tonight, members of the Leadwood Fire Protection District completed a three-hour Floodwater & Swiftwater Rescue Awareness course through the National Rescue & Response Institute.

During the class, members learned the fundamentals of technical rescue shore operations, including basic terminology, safety practices, and rescue awareness. By successfully completing the course, each participant earned a nationally recognized certification.

We are of proud of our members for their continued commitment to training and professional development, ensuring we are better prepared to serve and protect our community! 👨🏻‍🚒🚒

Firefighting is physically demanding work, and staying properly hydrated is an important part of keeping our firefighters safe and ready to perform when they are needed most. Whether we’re battling a structure fire, working a brush fire or assisting a neighboring department, proper hydration helps our members stay at their best.

We are incredibly grateful to DripDrop and National Volunteer Fire Council for supporting volunteer firefighters and helping departments like ours to provide resources that help our members succeed, like these flavored hydration packets.💧🔥

URGENT FLOOD RELIEF NEEDED

Flooding in an Iron County has destroyed many homes, and families need help now. St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department is collecting emergency supplies and delivering the first round Monday afternoon. The supplies will also be available to First Responders and volunteers. We will continue to collect and deliver items until needs have been met.

Drop-off location: St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department – 1550 Doubet Road, Farmington.

Items urgently needed:
- Water
- First-aid kits
- Flashlights and batteries
- Toilet paper
- Paper towels
-Non-perishable snacks
- Hygiene supplies - soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine products, diapers, baby wipes
- Bleach
- Trash bags
- Work gloves
