A little friendly competition for a cause close to our hearts!✨

Tinsel & Tidings is coming up on November 5, and we're excited to introduce the teams participating in this year's Festive Fashion Face-Off, all in support of the children and families served by the B.E. Smith Family Center!

Meet this year's teams:

Jake & Ollie: Dr. Jake Bauer of the Shawnee Mission School District and his niece, Olivette, a B.E. Smith Family Center student.

Chris & Miska: Chris Stibbs of Growing Futures and 5-year-old Miska, a B.E. Smith Family Center student.

Charlie's Angels: B.E. Smith Family Center therapists Shannon Condon, Cari Hodes and Erin Slicker, joined by Charlie, a student at the center.

Each team will take the runway and help raise support for the children and families who benefit from the care and services provided at the B.E. Smith Family Center.

We can't wait to see these teams in action on November 5! Which team are you cheering for?

For Kansas City comedian Jamie Campbell making people laugh has always been part of who he is. But at 45, he found himself facing something he couldn't joke his way through: a colon cancer diagnosis.

It started with fatigue and low iron levels that weren't improving. His primary care physician, Dr. Kayla Beashore, recommended further testing, which ultimately led to a colonoscopy and a diagnosis that changed his life.

Jamie underwent surgery and faced a challenging recovery, supported by his wife, family and care team at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.

During that time, he made a promise to himself. If he survived, he would use his gift of comedy to bring joy and connection to people, especially during life's hardest moments.

Today, following successful treatment, Jamie continues to share his humor with others while staying committed to his health through regular screenings.

His journey is a powerful reminder that sometimes the first signs of something serious can be easy to overlook. Listening to your body and following up when something doesn't feel right can make all the difference.

We're grateful Jamie has allowed us to share his story and the people who helped him along the way. 💙

Look at all that pink! 🦩

Across our Kansas City region, our teams came together for something bigger than wearing a color.

Behind every pink shirt is a reminder of the people we're standing beside. The patients facing uncertainty, the survivors celebrating another milestone and the families carrying the memories of someone they love.

Each has a story worth honoring, and each is a reason we continue to raise awareness and encourage early detection.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're wearing pink with purpose.

What if treating liver cancer didn't require an incision?

That's what makes histotripsy a different approach to cancer care. This non-invasive, outpatient procedure can treat certain cancers that begin in the liver or spread there from elsewhere in the body.

With very little pain and no incisions, histotripsy offers another treatment option for eligible patients.

Hear from our team about this new way of treating liver cancer.

For Darcie, it all started with someone she loved. 🌷

22 years ago, Darcie began her career in mammography as a way to honor her aunt Meghan, who was one of her favorite people.

Today, as a breast imaging navigator, she gets to be there for patients during moments that can feel overwhelming, especially when they receive a call that additional imaging is needed.

In Darcie's own words:

“I love getting to help the patient understand what their report says and what the imaging will entail at their follow up appointment. When people get that phone call saying we need some additional imaging it can be scary so getting to care for them in that moment is so important to me. I started out in mammography 22 years as way to honor my aunt Meghan who was one of my favorite people…and to evolve into this role has been something that brings me so much pride. It is an honor to be there in this capacity for my patients.”

What began as a way to honor someone she loved has become a career spent helping others feel a little less alone during uncertain moments.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're grateful for people like Darcie who remind us how much it means to have someone who truly cares by your side.

Sometimes, caring for someone begins with something as simple as taking the time to listen. 💙

Throughout the Free Local Healthcare Clinic, there were moments of connection, conversations and people coming together for one another.

For those who came seeking care, it was an opportunity to receive support and be heard. For our providers and volunteers, it was an opportunity to share their time, compassion and commitment to serving others.

These are the moments that bring our mission to life. We’re thankful for the trust our community places in us and for the chance to continue building meaningful connections with the people and families who call Kansas City home.
