In Week 6 of Straight from the Chair with Ms. Mary, she opens up about the importance of having a strong support system during her dialysis journey. From family and friends to her care team, and most importantly her faith in God, Ms. Mary shares who she has leaned on during both the good days and the rough ones. One thing is certain — no one can do this journey alone. Dialysis comes with challenges, but faith, love, and support can help carry you through even the toughest days. 💚

Today, we celebrate 55 years of Dialysis Clinic, Inc.! On this day in 1971, we dialyzed our first patient in Nashville, and the rest is history!

We’re grateful to celebrate 55 incredible years of putting patients first, furthering Dr. Keith Johnson’s vision to care for eight patients awaiting kidney transplants that has grown into the largest, not-for-profit dialysis provider serving more than 13,500 people with kidney disease in the U.S. and U.S. Virgin Islands in 240 clinics and 90 hospital services programs.

We’ve evolved to provide innovative care along the continuum of kidney disease and are proud to support the gift of life through the work of DCI Donor Services and empower people with kidney disease to live their best lives through REACH Kidney Care’s interdisciplinary support. We’re supporting renal research and launched the DCI Foundation to raise funds to support people with kidney disease. We’ve welcomed kids to Camp Okawehna for more than 50 years so they make memories and connections with others facing similar health journeys.

At DCI, the goal has always been simple: The care of the patient is our reason for existence. Our mission remains the same more than five decades later.

Thank you to our patients for trusting us with your care and thank you to our employees for believing in DCI’s mission and carrying it forward each day.

Straight from the Chair with Ms.Mary week 5!

In today’s episode of Straight from the Chair with Ms. Mary, she discusses one of the toughest battles many dialysis patients face—lifestyle changes, including dietary and fluid restrictions.

Adjusting to a new way of eating and drinking can be challenging, but you are not alone. It’s important to talk with your dietitian and care team, know your labs, and understand areas where improvements may be needed so you can be equipped to make healthy, sustainable changes.

Remember—you don’t have to cut everything out completely… moderation is 🔑! 💚

This week’s question in our 16-week series of Straight from the Chair with Ms. Mary is:

What makes you feel comfortable at the clinic?

Our patients often spend 9+ hours with us each week, and it’s important that they feel comfortable in their environment and with the team they are entrusting to provide this life-sustaining treatment. At DCI Lexington, we strive to create a space where patients feel supported, cared for, and valued throughout their journey.

Week 3 of our Straight from the Chair with Ms. Mary series is here!

This week’s question: “What was the hardest part about starting dialysis?”

Ms. Mary shares that the hardest part for her was getting a vascular access. One thing she appreciated was having those important conversations with her nephrologist ahead of time, which allowed her to start dialysis with a permanent access instead of a catheter — something that was very important to her. Permanent accesses are often the best option for our patients because they help avoid many of the infection risks commonly associated with catheters.

Every patient’s journey is different, but education, preparation, and open communication can make a big difference when starting dialysis. We’re grateful to Ms. Mary for continuing to share her experience and perspective to help encourage and inform others. 💚
