🎙️ Big news for Kauaʻi healthcare

Wilcox Medical Center is expanding access to advanced care with the launch of its new interventional radiology (IR) program this summer.

Catch radiologist Dr. Chad Wilcox on-air recently with Kaua‘i's Kauaʻi's KONG FM 93.5's Ron Wiley as they talk about how IR brings minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to our community, helping patients heal faster, with less risk and shorter recovery times.

Caring for our communities goes beyond patient care – it includes caring for our environment. 🌎💚

In 2025, Wilcox Medical Center and Kauaʻi Medical Clinic recycled more than 400,000 pounds of materials, helping reduce waste and protect our island resources.

That impact adds up:
🌱 734 trees saved
💧 221,293 gallons of water conserved
⚡ 453,753 hours of electricity saved
🛢️ 10,327 gallons of oil saved

From paper and cardboard to e-waste and batteries, every step brings us closer to a healthier Hawaiʻi.
Mahalo to our teams for making sustainability part of everyday healthcare.

Access to advanced medical technology on Kaua‘i continues to expand thanks to the generosity of Dr. Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg.

Their recent $1.48 million donation to Wilcox Medical Center will support a mobile MRI unit and a new 3D mammography system. This will help ensure patients can continue to receive essential imaging services during the renovation of Wilcox’s current MRI suite, while also expanding early detection capabilities for breast cancer.

This latest gift brings their total support for Wilcox programs and services to more than $4 million, including past investments in telemedicine, COVID-19 response, and emergency and trauma care.

Mahalo to Dr. Chan and Mark Zuckerberg for their continued commitment to improving access to care for our Kaua‘i community.

🌺🧡 Every year, we celebrate the nurses whose impact extends well beyond their own patients – the ones who make everyone around them better.

This year's Nurse of the Year awardees were nominated by colleagues who shared inspiring stories of integrity, compassion, and leadership. Today, we're proud to introduce our first honoree: George Kato, NP, recipient of the Nurse of the Year award for Clinical Excellence in Nursing Practice.

Here's what colleagues had to say about George:

"George is the kind of provider who will seek opportunities to learn new techniques when possible and reach out with questions if he has them. He is also an exceptionally skilled provider.

"George is the perfect example of a practitioner who is focused on patient-centered care. He is knowledgeable, thorough, and caring. His patients regularly comment on how much they appreciate his expert care and kindness. George is thorough and professional and keeps excellent and detailed notes. He regularly initiates consultation with specialists to support effective and thorough care for patients.

"George consistently advocates for the needs of his patients in meetings and collaborates with various specialists to ensure continuity of care and is consistently compassionate, accommodating, and available for his patients. George leads by example."

Wilcox Medical Center and Kauaʻi Medical Clinic recently welcomed more than 100 high school students from across Kauaʻi for a special day of learning and career exploration at the Wilcox Health Career Fair 🌺.

Students toured behind the scenes of both facilities and got a firsthand look at the many roles that support patient care. From rehabilitation services to food and nutrition, they explored more than a dozen career pathways, met caregivers, and learned what it takes to work in healthcare right here on the island.

For many Wilcox caregivers who grew up on the Garden Isle, the day was especially meaningful. They shared their experiences and encouraged students who hope to one day return home and care for the Kauaʻi community. We're grateful for the opportunity to help inspire the next generation of homegrown healthcare professionals by showing the wide range of opportunities available on Kauaʻi. 🧡
