😇 Little Saints, BIG Feelings!

All Saints Day is one of my favorite celebrations in Catholic schools! The tiny St. Francises, St. Joans, and St. Thérèses walking through the hallways…does it get any cuter?! 💛

But as a school-based OT, I also know that all those costumes, parades, crowded hallways, and changes in routine can be A LOT for some little nervous systems!

And here's something I hear from parents ALL the time…

"My child comes home from school and completely falls apart, but their teacher says they had a great day!"

Sound familiar?

Just because a child LOOKS regulated doesn't necessarily mean they FEEL regulated.

With All Saints Day right around the corner, I put together 4 simple OT tips to help make your school's celebration more sensory-friendly and inclusive.

Because every little saint deserves to feel comfortable, supported, and included! 😇

🌈🐘 ALL ABOARD NOAH'S ARK! 🦒🦁

Another exciting day for Sacred Steps Sensory Paths! 💛

Today, I had the pleasure of installing our Noah's Ark FULL Sensory Path at Mercy Tots, Mercy Health's child care center in Lima, Ohio!

I'm especially excited about this installation because it marks another opportunity for Sacred Steps to branch into a new setting...child care centers! 🙌

As a pediatric occupational therapist, I LOVE seeing purposeful movement incorporated into children's environments from an early age. And what better way to encourage little bodies to MOVE, explore, and develop important motor skills than through the story of Noah's Ark?! 🌈

Our OT-designed sensory paths aren't just colorful decorations. They're designed to encourage coordination, balance, motor planning, body awareness, and SO much more!

And the little ones? They'll just think they're having fun! 😂

🌻 There's a reason you'll find a sunflower in every full Sacred Steps sensory path.

And today, I'd love to share why. ❤️

Three years ago today, October 21, 2023, I lost my mom.

Sunflowers were her favorite flower.

She passed away before Sacred Steps Sensory Paths ever became a reality, and I know without a doubt that she would have been my BIGGEST supporter.

She would have celebrated every order, wanted to hear about every new school, and probably told everyone she knew what I was doing. ❤️

When I started designing my sensory paths, I wanted to find a way to bring a little piece of her along on this journey.

So I decided to include a sunflower in every full sensory path I design. 🌻

Sunflowers represent happiness, hope, loyalty, and resilience. And I love how they're known for turning toward the sunlight as they grow.

But there's another meaning that makes them even more special.

🌻 Sunflowers have also become a recognized symbol of hidden disabilities.

A reminder that not every challenge someone faces is visible, and that a little extra patience, understanding, and support can make all the difference.

As a pediatric occupational therapist, that connection means so much to me.

What started as a tribute to my mom also represents something I've dedicated my career to: helping children feel understood, supported, included, and successful.

And now, every time another Sacred Steps sensory path is installed in a school, a little piece of my mom goes along with it.

I love thinking about how her favorite flower is bringing a little happiness to children across the country.
