I always say some of the most talented artists I’ve ever met, have been in the most bleak places.

After class the other day, one of my MISTR participants asked if I’d read something he wrote, and of course I said yes.

I’m sharing his words raw and authentic.

I again, love what I do the good, bad, sad, and down right ugly. Being invited into someone’s most vulnerable moments and thoughts is a honor.

I did get his permission to share ✔️🩵

Did you know SU***DE is the 2nd LEADING cause of deaths among youth and young adults ages 15-34!

Did you also know Suicide-related deaths were four times higher among males (38,977) compared to females (9,847), according to the Center Of Disease Control and Prevention.

4 in 10 high school students experienced persistent
feelings of sadness or
hopelessness.

2 in 10 students seriously
considered attempting
su***de and almost 1 in 10
students attempted su***de.

Suicidal ideation signs aren’t always presented in ways of isolation, items being given away, or expressing sadness. Sometimes it’s laughter, joking, helping others. Masks people wear are often times to prevent others from knowing we are struggling. People don’t want to be a burden on their loved ones or friends.

Check in with those you love. Open communication and conversation save lives. 🩷🩵 When we know better we do better.

Tonight is the night 🙌

We are so excited to have been asked to partner in this event! Unity Inspired will be providing substance use screening and talking to our community members how addiction enhances the risk for cancer.

This as many of you know this is truly near and dear to my heart. Having lost my one and only sibling to cancer as a result of his own addiction. I want to help others understand the importance and impact this disease has on them not only short term but long term as well.

Come see us and say hi! We’d love to hear from you. Welove connecting with the community I grew up in, it’s humbling and inspiring. 🩵🩷

Cancer has touched too many families in our community…

Whether it’s through a personal diagnosis, the loss of someone we love, or the fear and uncertainty that comes with not knowing, the weight of cancer should not be carried alone.

That’s why we’re bringing FREE cancer screenings to Lincoln next Friday, August 28th from 4-8pm.

If you're due for a screening, have questions about your cancer risk, or need to share your story with others, we want you to join us! To register, visit: https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=2Y1kdKbA1E2_onCNHZTIsIxU6EP29FxOga9tblE2L4ZUQk5QOVJaR0VXMlRGODRKN1AzRkZKWlJHMy4u&route=shorturl

❤️No insurance required
❤️ On-site screenings for breast, lung, colorectal & prostate
❤️Interpreters & childcare available

This event is made possible through our partnership with One Stop Cancer Shop , Bryan Health, and Mt Zion, bringing healthcare professionals, community connection, and cancer screening services together in one place.
