Friday, August 7, Sixth House Studio is hosting a TAROT RELEASE PARTY! Local Artist Joe Crace ( aka BigHoleArts ) has designed a uniquely inspired complete 78-card TAROT deck.
Our friends Lo Patt and Ruby Patchouli will be there to do readings.
A few words from Joe Crace:
This deck was made because I thought it would be awesome. All the words below are a small attempt as to why.
Have you ever awakened from a dream with a song already playing in your head? What happens when the music you love begins to accompany your dreams, organize your symbols, and offer itself as a form of practical magic?
To say just a little, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is an Australian band whose constantly expanding body of music moves through psychedelic rock, heavy metal, folk, electronic music, jazz, environmental science fiction, fantasy, and apocalyptic storytelling. Across dozens of albums, recurring characters, creatures, symbols, alternate worlds, and structures of creation and collapse have gradually formed an interconnected mythology often called the Gizzverse.
This independently created 78 card tarot emerged from an encounter with that mythology. After dreaming with the King Gizzard song Interior People as a kind of narration, I began to recognize the band as both psychopomp and hierophant in my own life. Its music had become a guide through the interior world and a teacher of mysteries within the world outside it.
Born from dreams, ecological spirituality, ceremonial study, and several hundred hours of digital illustration, the deck transforms the music and mythology of King Gizzard into a working divinatory system. It is based upon the Thoth Tarot, a twentieth century occult deck that connects each card with astrology, alchemy, Qabalah, mythology, and ceremonial magic.
At the center of this deck is Han Tyumi, a cyborg character whose longing to become human eventually culminates in the Murder of the Universe. His journey provides a symbolic current through the cards, beginning with the unformed impulse of the Fool and moving toward a final confrontation with creation, limitation, desire, embodiment, and universal dissolution.
The deck also explores tetrachromacy, altered perception, ecological collapse, mutation, machinery, death, rebirth, and the union of forces that appear impossible to reconcile. Human and machine, nature and industry, creation and destruction, interior and exterior, sacred and absurd all become motifs for personal workings conducted through the symbolic architecture of the Gizzverse.
The deck is complete only for now. It is currently a fully operational 78 card tarot, but optional replacement and booster cards may be created as the band continues to release music and expand its mythology. Like the Gizzverse itself, the system remains alive, open, and capable of further mutation.
No knowledge of tarot or ceremonial magic is required.
The only prerequisite is loving the music.
