What if antibiotics aren’t the full answer?

A recent Nature Medicine article highlighted that up to 20% of patients may continue experiencing symptoms after Lyme disease treatment, often referred to as Post-Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome or “long Lyme.”

Research suggests long Lyme may share similarities with long COVID, where ongoing immune activation and inflammation may continue after the initial infection.

This means:
✅ Antibiotics may not always be enough
✅ Inflammation may also need to be addressed
✅ Chronic symptoms deserve a deeper look

Growing up, I developed a deep curiosity for nature and biology.

Little did I know, this was only the start to a lifelong career dedicated to clinical immunology.

From studying microbiology and biochemistry at Bar-Ilan University, to teaching immunology, to eventually building Immunosciences Lab alongside my wife in 1989, this journey would not have been possible without years of trial and error, learning, research, perseverance, and passion.

Today, Immunosciences Lab continues to lead in clinical immunology through specialized immunological assays designed to support healthcare professionals and enhance patient outcomes.

Along with this work, I am most proud of building a beautiful family, including seven grandchildren.

36+ years later, the mission continues. Thank you for being part of the journey.

Autoimmunity can begin years before symptoms become obvious.

Rubina Vojdani, Lab Manager & Marketing Director at Immunosciences Lab and daughter of Dr. Aristo Vojdani, joined Dr. Jen Pfleghaar on The Integrative Health Podcast to discuss how specialized immune testing may help uncover deeper patterns linked to autoimmunity, chronic inflammation, Lyme disease, viral triggers, long COVID, and brain health.

Inside the conversation:

✅ Viruses like EBV, HHV-6, and SARS-CoV-2 as immune triggers
✅ The role of molecular mimicry in autoimmune reactions
✅ Why chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, long COVID, and Lyme symptoms may overlap
✅ Why precision matters in Lyme disease testing
✅ How advanced immune panels can help practitioners investigate root-cause patterns

For practitioners navigating complex chronic cases, or anyone searching for deeper answers, this episode is packed with insight. 🎙️

Live in a tick-prone area? Check your skin daily.

Ticks can carry Lyme disease and may attach to the skin after time spent in wooded, grassy, or deer-populated areas.

As Dr. V explains, daily tick checks are one of the most important Lyme disease prevention habits, especially during peak tick season.

Spending time outdoors?

✅ Wear protective clothing
✅ Use natural insect repellent
✅ Avoid bare legs and arms in wooded or grassy areas
✅ Check your skin daily for ticks after being outside

This Lyme Disease Awareness Month, follow us for more tick prevention and Lyme disease education from Dr. V.

This is your sign to keep going because I’m proof of what happens when you don’t take no for an answer and build something of your own.

In 1989, I had a love for teaching, but I always knew I wanted something more.

When I was told “no” to growing the pathology department at Charles Drew, I chose to follow my dreams.

With the support of my wife, I opened Immunosciences Lab.

37 years later, Immunosciences has grown into a reputable lab that extends abroad, 350 specialized antibody assays, 17 U.S. patents, a brand new facility, and decades of research, conferences, speaking, and podcast features behind us.

Today, our mission continues: to help enhance patient outcomes by providing practitioners with reliable, precise diagnostic tools rooted in pioneering research.

Decades later, my children are part of this mission too.

From 1989 to today, this is our story.

Nearly 500,000 people are diagnosed with Lyme disease each year, but many cases are still missed.

Why?

Because Lyme rarely presents the way you expect.

It can overlap with neurological, cardiovascular, digestive, and immune-related symptoms, making it difficult to recognize.

❗️Warning signs may include Bell’s palsy, digestive issues, heart palpitations, tingling or numbness, anxiety, or mood changes.

These symptoms are not always immediately linked to infection, but they should not be ignored.

For clinicians managing complex or unexplained cases, deeper immune insight may help guide more informed decisions.

Most people don’t think twice about what their food is packaged in, but it matters!⁣

Because many cans and containers are lined with plasticizers. And yes, that includes even the ones labeled “BPA-free.”⁣

And “BPA-free” doesn’t necessarily mean plastic-free, it often just means a different version of plastic.⁣

The bigger question is: what are you actually being exposed to over time?⁣

Because these materials can make their way into what you’re eating, day after day.⁣

If you’re choosing packaged foods, small changes matter. Even something as simple as opting for glass over plastic-lined containers can reduce that exposure⁣

Have you ever looked into what your food is actually packaged in?

May is Lyme Awareness Month, and for many people, it’s a reminder of just how long they’ve been searching for answers.⁣

Maybe you’re dealing with fatigue that won’t go away. Or brain fog, or joint pain.⁣

You’re dealing with symptoms that keep getting brushed off or explained away.⁣

For some, Lyme disease isn’t missed because the symptoms aren’t there, rather, it’s missed because getting an accurate diagnosis can be complicated.⁣

❗️👉A false negative can mean months or even years of untreated symptoms, sometimes leading to more serious complications like Lyme arthritis, neurological symptoms, and what many now call “long Lyme.”⁣

A false positive can mean unnecessary antibiotics, which can create a whole different set of challenges for your gut, immune system, and overall health.⁣

This is why accurate testing matters so much.⁣

If Lyme has ever been a question mark in your health journey, understanding the right testing options matters.⁣

👉 If you’re a practitioner, you can order directly through us.⁣
👉 If you’re a patient, we can help guide you on how to work with your practitioner to access testing.⁣
