Birth story time from a repeat client with their second baby!! ✨🌙

I had a harder time with Josephine’s pregnancy, we were worried she wasn’t growing since she never really measured bigger than I think 36 weeks. But after an ultrasound and reassurance from Kayla we knew she was fine. The day before she was born we went on a walk, but otherwise very uneventful. I had no contractions or signs of labor. Then I was awoken at 3am with pretty strong contractions and could not go back to sleep. I figured it was going to take a while so I told my husband to go back to sleep and started a load of laundry so I could have my outfit ready that I wanted to wear. That was very delusional. After an hour or so it was getting a bit more intense, so I called Kayla so we could do the group b strep IV. I thought she would essentially put it in then come back when things sped up. I woke up my mom who once again was in denial. While Kayla was charting all of a sudden transition hit me like a ton of bricks. After once again an hour of Kayla being there it was go time. We almost forgot to wake my husband up and get my pants off before she was born. I didn’t try to push, I just let my body push and she was here! She was born in her sac, and after only three hours of contractions sweet baby Josephine was born! Once again on the first of the month on a Sunday morning, roughly around the same time as her older sister.

Though my labors were short, Kayla was very supportive and helped me listen to my body, we are very grateful for her help and hopefully will get to use her next time!

Seriously. 😂
You aren’t wasting our time.
You aren’t committing to anything simply by asking questions.
And you definitely don’t need to show up already knowing everything about homebirth.
That’s what consultations are for.

Maybe you’re 8 weeks pregnant and already know exactly what you want.
Maybe you’re 25 weeks and something about your current care doesn’t feel like the right fit.

Or maybe you’re not even pregnant yet and you’re researching your options for the future.

You’re allowed to start with:
“I’m curious.”

Already pregnant and realizing your current birth plan might not be what you actually want?

You may still have options.

I sometimes hear from families who assumed they had to choose their birth provider at the very beginning of pregnancy and were stuck with that decision.
You’re not.
Some families know they want a homebirth before the pregnancy test is even dry. 😂
Others start pregnancy planning a hospital birth and begin exploring other options later.
Maybe you aren’t feeling heard in your current care.
Maybe you’ve started learning more about birth and realized you’d like something different.
Maybe you recently discovered homebirth was even an option.
Or maybe you’ve been thinking about it for months but have been afraid that it’s “too late” to ask.
Depending on how far along you are, your health and pregnancy history, whether you’re an appropriate candidate for homebirth, and our availability around your due date, transferring into midwifery care during pregnancy may be possible.
You don’t need to know whether you definitely want to switch before contacting us.

She planned a homebirth with her first baby. Here’s what happened….

It was February 28th and I felt back pain and told my husband (first time dad for sure😅 made me call Kayla in the middle of the night when I lost my mucus plug and bloody show, the day before everyone wanted me to ask Kayla when she thought he would make his arrival, and she said whenever he’s ready😂) so my husband told me to tell Kayla so I said I was gonna try and sleep some more because she said you won’t be able to rest much later on in labor so I was thinking it was just Braxton hicks or just him moving that was keeping me up. Around 9:40 am I texted her and told her how I felt, no answer (she was at her doctors appointment 😂) well then it felt more intense so I called and she asked if I was home alone 😅😅 (definitely was, I was soooooo convinced I was gonna be a first time mom who went past 41 weeks 🤣 I was 39 wks and 5 days. My husband was at work and my FIL was too, my MIL went to get her oil change and SIL was in college classes. (ALL over 30 minutes away😅) so Kayla said she was gonna come check on me since no one was close, she asked if I called my husband home and he was on his way (further out than her) and she gave me an eta of 10:50 am and her and my husband got their at the same time! She got in the house and asked if she could do a cervical check, I agreed and she said if you push now he’s coming out😳😳😳 like girl what🤣 she asked how determined I was to have a water birth and I really wanted that pool😅 her and my husband tried to set it up but I wanted to go to the bathroom and p*e well didn’t make it back to the pool and fell to my knees and like three pushes he was out, within 45 minutes of them getting to my house, but that’s not the end because why would it go smooth😅 I passed out on her and told her I didn’t🤣🤣 but we had a perfect little boy who was 8 lbs and 5 oz!

Imagine going to a prenatal appointment and not feeling like you’re watching the clock.
That’s one of the differences families often notice about midwifery care.
Yes, I’m monitoring the clinical pieces of pregnancy.
But prenatal care is also where we build the relationship that carries into birth.
We talk about how you’re actually feeling.
We discuss what’s happening with your pregnancy.
We answer questions.
We talk about birth.
We talk about your options.
We prepare for postpartum.
And your partner and children don’t have to feel like outsiders to the process.
Pregnancy care shouldn’t feel like something that’s simply being done to you.
I want you to understand your care and feel comfortable participating in decisions throughout your pregnancy.
Because by the time labor begins, we already know each other.
And that matters. 💜

One of the biggest questions we hear about homebirth is:
“But what happens if something goes wrong?”
And it’s an important question.
Planning a homebirth does NOT mean pretending that complications never happen.
Part of skilled midwifery care is continually assessing both mom and baby, recognizing when something is moving outside of normal, and knowing when additional evaluation or medical support is appropriate.
And here’s something many people don’t realize:
Not every hospital transfer is an emergency.
Sometimes labor is simply not progressing (even in day 3 and mom has been unable to get any rest 🫩). Sometimes someone needs pain relief, additional monitoring or another intervention that isn’t available at home.
Other situations can be more urgent (although we have only had one true emergency in six years **knocks on wood**)
Either way, our goal isn’t “homebirth at all costs.”
Our goal is a healthy mom, a healthy baby, informed decision-making and respectful care—even when the plan has to change.
If fear of “what if?” is one of the things keeping you from even exploring homebirth, ask us about it.
We would much rather have an honest conversation than tell you homebirth is risk-free. 🤍

Yes, this is still how excited I get after you push out your baby (after six years of this work)! Yes, I will celebrate all of your milestones and victories with you! Yes, I will smile as hard as I possibly can once you bring your baby earthside!
