One of the biggest misconceptions in electrical safety is believing PPE alone creates protection.

PPE is a critical layer of defense, but it should never be the first line of defense. Strong electrical safety programs rely on engineering controls, proper maintenance, risk assessments, training, and safe work practices long before PPE enters the conversation.

Electrical energy is often the primary focus, but stored mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and thermal energy can create significant hazards as well.

An arc flash label isn’t just a sticker; it’s a decision-making tool.

In a matter of seconds, a qualified worker should be able to see the hazard boundary, understand the voltage, and know exactly what PPE is required. No guessing, no second-guessing.

One detail that’s becoming more important, and now required, is the date of the assessment. That small line tells a much bigger story. Is the study still valid? Has the system changed? Are you within that five-year review window, or operating on outdated information? Because an accurate label today doesn’t guarantee an accurate label five years from now.
