May is Mental Health Awareness Month

At Thera-Peds, we know that mental health is just as important as physical development. Whether a child is working on movement in PT, daily skills in OT or communication skills in speech therapy, their emotional well-being plays a vital role in progress and confidence.

Here are a few ways families can support their child's mental health:

Our pediatric OT’s know fine motor AND visual motor skills work together to help kiddos succeed in everyday tasks- like writing, dressing, building, and playing. Visual motor skills help kiddos coordinate what they see with how they move their hands. When these skills grow, confidence follows. Ms. Melissa is incorporating fine motor skills with visual motor skills all while playing and having fun!!

Proprioceptive input focuses on stimulating the body’s sense of position and movement. This sense helps you know where your body parts are without looking and is essential for coordination, balance, and self-regulation. Proprioceptive therapy can *improve focus and attention *reduce anxiety or overstimulation *help regulate emotions *enhance coordination and motor skills *support better body awareness. Ms Sara is incorporating deep pressure activities while playing a game in our Richmond location
