Thank You, Central Georgia Electric Membership Corporation Foundation!

Macon Volunteer Clinic is grateful to receive a $3,100 grant award from the Central Georgia EMC Foundation to support patient care and chronic disease management.

This funding will allow our clinical team to provide blood pressure cuffs and diabetic glucose test strips to patients who need them most. By monitoring their blood pressure and blood sugar levels at home, patients can create logs to share with their healthcare providers, helping them better manage chronic conditions and prevent complications.

For many of our patients, access to these essential monitoring tools can make a meaningful difference in their health journey. We are thankful to the Central Georgia EMC Foundation for investing in the health and well-being of our community and helping our patients take an active role in managing their care.

Thank you for helping us empower patients to live healthier lives! 💙

True compassion means ensuring that working hard doesn’t mean sacrificing your health.

At Macon Volunteer Clinic, 100% of our patients are employed—often working one or more jobs while still unable to access affordable healthcare coverage. Through the Georgia Charitable Care Network, we help fill that gap in care for Georgia’s working uninsured.

When patients can get the care they need, they can stay healthy, stay on the job, and continue supporting their families and our local economy. Compassion heals—and at MVC, it keeps our workforce thriving.

More patients. More impact. More lives changed.

May was a month worth celebrating at Macon Volunteer Clinic!

From welcoming a growing number of new patients to hosting another successful blood drive with the American Red Cross, our team continued working to ensure uninsured adults in Middle Georgia have access to the care they deserve.

One milestone we're especially excited about: through the first five months of 2026, we've welcomed 69 new patients—a 50% increase compared to the same time last year. Every number represents a neighbor, friend, coworker, or family member who now has access to compassionate healthcare.

In this month's newsletter, you'll also find:
❤️ Highlights from our May blood drive
❤️ The dedication of our Women's Health Exam Rooms in memory of Dr. Thomas Nelson Abdella
❤️ Information about our upcoming Mid-Year Appeal
❤️ Ways to connect with upcoming health education opportunities

Take a few minutes to catch up on everything that happened inside MVC this May and see the impact your support is making possible.

National CPR & AED Awareness Week ❤️

Did you know that nearly 3 out of 4 cardiac arrests happen at home? That means the life you save could be the life of a spouse, parent, child, friend, or neighbor.

During National CPR & AED Awareness Week, Macon Volunteer Clinic encourages our community to learn the simple skills that can make a lifesaving difference. When someone experiences sudden cardiac arrest, immediate CPR can double or even triple their chance of survival.

The two steps of Hands-Only CPR are simple:
1. Call 911
2. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest

AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) are also designed for anyone to use and provide step-by-step instructions during an emergency.

At Macon Volunteer Clinic, we believe that health education saves lives. This week, take a few minutes to learn CPR and encourage your family members to do the same. You never know when those skills may be needed.

Macon Volunteer Clinic is honored to announce the dedication of our Women's Health Exam Rooms in memory of Dr. Thomas Nelson Abdella, MD.

This meaningful recognition was made possible through the generous support of the Thomas Nelson Abdella MD Foundation and Dr. Joan Abdella Burtner, the Foundation's Director and Georgia Vice-President for Giving, who selected the Women's Health Exam Rooms as a tribute to her brother's lifelong work as an OB-GYN and maternal-fetal medicine specialist.

Dr. Burtner was introduced to Macon Volunteer Clinic through longtime volunteer physician Dr. Patrick Roche and has been a dedicated supporter of our mission for many years. Her generosity through the Foundation helped make a lasting impact on our Capital Campaign and on the patients we serve every day.

A plaque now stands outside the Women's Health Exam Rooms, honoring Dr. Abdella's belief in "the boundless joy of giving" and his lifelong dedication to improving the health and well-being of others.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Burtner and the Thomas Nelson Abdella MD Foundation for helping us continue to provide compassionate, quality healthcare to those who need it most.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that taking care of your mental health matters just as much as taking care of your physical health. 💚

In a world that constantly tells us to keep going, remember: it’s okay to take a break. Rest, reset, ask for help, and give yourself grace when you need it.

Small moments of self-care can make a big difference. Let’s continue working together to break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage open, supportive conversations in our community.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to those who gave their lives in service and to the families who carry their legacy forward. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with loved ones today, let us also take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of this day and honor those who gave everything for our freedom.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day from all of us at Macon Volunteer Clinic. ❤️🤍💙

☀️ Today is Don’t Fry Day! ☀️

As we head into the sunny summer months, it’s important to remember to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Skin cancer is one of the most common — and preventable — forms of cancer.

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe in the sun:
🧴 Wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher
🕶️ Use sunglasses and protective clothing
🌳 Seek shade when possible
⏰ Avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak afternoon hours
💧 Stay hydrated

Taking a few extra precautions today can help protect your health for years to come. Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine responsibly! 🌞
