When your new employer is based off of Michigan Ave in Chicago? You get a beautiful day. They also allowed Tony the okay to come and help with the accessibility component. Bonus: The event being at the Microsoft building?…. He played on the video game stations 😆. All day.

Oh, hey.

I have a Psychology Today profile now. This is if you want it for you, loved one, or someone that has ADHD, who lives in Wisconsin or Illinois and needs a new individual or couples therapist.

Hard nope. In individual therapy or couples work.

Let’s play the “REFRAME GAME.”

I do this with my group supervision and my 1:1s where the students and supervisees write down statements clients have made that they struggled with reframing or morphing them into something strengths-based. It promotes flexible thinking, alternative perspective and working as a team.

I’ll share a favorite that a student reflected with another student in group supervision.

The client statement:

A couple said, “We’re struggling to enjoy each other.”

The reframe consideration:

“We lost sight of how to enjoy life with each other.”

This shifts from a face off to working alongside. Using words like “We” which they’re already using which using client language can be subtle but powerful; and it’s reinforcing an aligned front. This also notes something was there and lost sight of it, it’s not gone. Strengths-based. Challenges any all or nothing thinking which thinking traps are common in communication in relationships. Evidence-based perspectives through Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in couples work. All of that learning in one directive, for client, supervisee, and supervisor!

From the AAMFT Approved supervisor perspective, you can experience parallel process in real time because sometimes the clinician in training rejects or combats the reframe. Whether in group supervision, with their peer or supervisor. Or in 1:1. We’re learning from our students ALL THE TIME!

Being a therapist-in-training can be overwhelming AND exciting. Both can be true. And being a supervisor much the same. Oh yeah… clients, too 😉 !

How we engage with this as supervisors in ways that promote curiosity and fun can excel evolution as your future LMFT finds their voice.

What other reframe ideas do you have for this statement?

This is educational only and I’m trying to share more about as a treatable diagnosis. It affects adults and as a specialist, I’m trying to share some introductory knowledge. Please reach out to your care team and if you don’t have therapist and are in WI or IL, consider this lady right hereeeee.

This is not meant to sway or change. It’s explaining why as a clinician and specialist, I do not. And opinions are not meant to diminish your opinions. Consult your care team, talk to people you love, and reach out. If you don’t have a clinician specialized in ADHD and you’re an adult with ADHD in IL or WI, please reach out.

This isn’t in the bible. It’s a social media quote. But I’m pretty sure He’d agree with us. Dog will always be goD backwards.

Dropped off 3 loaves of meatloaf at a local pantry.

It’s not for any credit to me, I’m hoping it gets you thinking “What can I do for someone who has less this week?” No shame, just a question. If you have it, give it.
