Thank you to board, clinical members, and student members for the Carl Whitaker 2026 award. I LOVE Carl Whitaker as an so to be next to him in an award feels so, simply put, good.

Being an LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor and educator in this field is one of my favorite things about this little life I live on this massive rock 🪨.

My supervisors and educators all the way back to Betty Rygiewicz, RN, LMFT who truly saw me as a supervisee and never tried to change or shape me. Just educate and allow space. And now I do that for others. I was lucky enough to tell her thank you years later. My student and supervisees who truly keep me humble and curious. To my clients who reinstate my faith in humanity. To their loved ones.

Jill, the WAMFT president said, “This is no small thing.” And it took me a bit to believe it. Today, it settled in. And I’m moved.

This world capitalizes on us obsessing over tomorrow, our finances and fears. The real success stories aren’t those with the biggest houses or even the biggest families. It’s about whatever you find peace in, you settle. And those you find peace with, you settle. And that normally starts with us making friends with our nervous system.

Private practice therapists are posting on Facebook groups.

And there are some themes:

- It is getting hard to keep their caseload filled. And not just during summer months.
- They are now taking insurance rather than self pay only
- Some insurances are auditing them and sending bills
- Psychology Today isn’t bringing in referrals
- They’re looking for employment that is connected to mental health but not direct care
- They’re feeling isolated and looking for communities
- They’re needing referral sources for complex cases because they’re not equipped to manage high risk cases
- Their own medical insurance in marketplace is unreasonably high
- Their companies aren’t qualifying for loan forgiveness.

I’m not trying to deter you from going into private practice. I’m showing you the behind the scene themes that real time private practice owners are stating they’re facing.

If you’re coming into the field, or you’re a supervisee/IT, please join these online community groups and observe themes. And then ask yourself, “How will I overcome, face or evolve with this?”

For those who did not know, I sold authentic Jade statements and S925 jewelry to help pay off my student loans. It took a chunk out then selling my house took care of the rest when I moved back to the WI/IL border.

I’m now looking through the final boxes since moving and I have like 5-6 Jade Statements (Village mostly) 🤦🏻‍♀️. They need homes.

These are handcarved Jade villages from around various mountains in China. I worked directly with Chinese small businesses who owned the mines and they’re hand carved by master carvers. Wholesale they cost me $300-400 a piece.

I’ll be posting them up in the coming weeks and I’m hoping they find homes for $100-200 depending on the weight. These are heirloom pieces and things that stay in families. The one thing? I’m not shipping them. If you’re in the Chicago or Milwaukee area, we can coordinate halfway pick up.

Here’s my Whatnot seller page you can check out reviews. I shipped in less than a day and had clients, not customers. In case you need confidence (totally fair!) that I take care of my clients when I sell products, here it is.

More to come.

It was very hot at the but the weather was lovely. The winner was the cheddar garlic lumpia, for sure! When we go back, though, I want the pork chop on a stick, chicken teriyaki and sirloin tip dinner. . I couldn’t eat much of today because everything was fried so your rating is from our infamous Tony.
