What if we could help shift our culture through simple gestures of care, presence, beauty, and genuine connection?
Yesterday, my friend Jayne and I met for a walk and came across a Catalpa tree in Orton Park shedding its blossoms. The ground was covered in them.
We decided to create a heart shaped Earth offering.
What happened next surprised us:
In less than an hour and a half, about 13 people stopped to admire it.
One man who lives across the street came over to see what we were doing and told us,
“I’ve seen a lot of things here, but I haven’t seen this.”
Everyone who stopped seemed genuinely uplifted once they saw the heart.
Some took photos of it. Others took photos of us creating it.
We invited people to share something they were grateful for before continuing on their walk.
What surprised me most was how many people genuinely appreciated this simple act, and how much connection and joy it created for all of us.
A lot of our conversations within Sacred Thread lately have revolved around intentionally creating the culture we want to be part of, and welcome others into.
Yesterday felt like a simple example of what that could look like:
🌀Time shared with a friend in Nature
🌀Creating something just for the joy of it
🌀Taking time to pause for a genuine moment of connection with strangers.
Upon reflecting, what dawned on me was this:
❤️Culture is largely comprised of the norms we knowingly or unknowingly agree to.
🧡Culture creation isn’t reserved for organizations, policies, or grand visions.
💛We are creating culture all the time through what we normalize.
💚We have the power to shift culture through how we show up in micro-moments of connection.
💙A positive culture can be enriched through beauty.
💜Positive culture can be amplified by asking uplifting questions like “What are you grateful for today?”
🩷Normalizing small acts of full presence, curiosity, joy, gratitude, and intentional connection help shift culture.
🤍The change starts with us, one interaction at a time.
