A little throwback to a partnership that continues to bring joy to Life on the Green: last year, The Home Depot team built a beautiful gazebo for our residents.

While these hot summer days are better spent indoors, the gazebo is still a well-loved spot in the early mornings and evenings. Partnerships like this help Birmingham Green extend the feeling of home for our residents, creating spaces where they can relax, connect, and enjoy the community around them.

Thank you, Home Depot, for helping make this special space possible!

As our region's aging population grows, so does the need for trusted, affordable, high-quality senior care.

For more than 90 years, Birmingham Green has been home to Northern Virginians who need long-term care but don't have the personal resources to afford it.

We've continually provided dignified, caring support to our residents — and that mission isn't slowing down.

Birmingham Green launched its free CNA training program because we saw a critical need for more trained, compassionate caregivers in eldercare.

Since 2010, the program has prepared the next generation of caregivers with quality training and a meaningful pathway into healthcare. Many graduates go on to become full-time team members right here at Birmingham Green.

Our spring class just graduated, and we're ready to welcome the next class of CNAs this August.

We have two CNA Open House sessions coming up - July 24 or July 27.

Life on the Green is built on a simple but powerful belief: every older adult deserves safety, dignity, care, and community.

As Birmingham Green approaches its 99th anniversary, we're reflecting on the mission that has guided us from the beginning. Our role has never been only to provide care — it's been to create a place that feels like home for seniors who need support, connection, and a community around them.

Did you catch Birmingham Green on Fox 5 DC's Good Day DC this morning? Our CEO, Denise Chadwick Wright, joined Chef Jeff and Chef Drew from Sodexo USA to share a few resident-favorite recipes and talk about the role food plays in whole-person care.

At Birmingham Green, mealtime is where residents nurture community. Through our partnership with Sodexo, we're able to offer food that's fresh, vibrant, and thoughtfully prepared to support resident health and well-being.

Today's segment focused on simple, brain-friendly dishes that taste great and support the mind — because good food is more than a meal. It's comfort, connection, and care.

What’s the difference between assisted living and memory care?

Both support older adults, but in different ways.

🏠Assisted living helps residents with daily needs while encouraging independence.
🧠Memory care is designed for individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, with specialized programming, structured routines, and trained staff.

At Birmingham Green, all of our residents receive individualized care from experienced healthcare professionals who understand the importance of safety, dignity, and quality of life.

At Birmingham Green, brain health is part of whole-person care.

In partnership with Sodexo USA, we are taking a proactive approach to incorporating the latest innovations in diet and nutrition through the Vibrant Minds Diet.

The Vibrant Minds Diet is a curated variation of the Mediterranean diet, developed to support brain health, cognitive function, and quality of life for older adults, including those living with dementia or Alzheimer’s.

By emphasizing nutrient-dense, colorful foods rich in antioxidants, healthy fats, and vitamins, this approach helps nourish the brain while supporting overall wellness.

Because food is more than a meal. It is part of how we care for the body, mind, and memory.
