💙 A Simple Idea That Went a Long Way

Last week, the women at our Central Street home did something pretty special. Each person received a card from the other women in the house, filled with things they appreciate and admire about her.

It's a simple activity, but one that can have a real impact. Taking a few minutes to recognize someone else's strengths helps build confidence, trust, and a stronger sense of community within the house.

These are the kinds of moments that make a recovery home more than just a place to live. They help create an environment where people support one another and continue to grow together.

Great idea by the women at Central Street. 💙

🌄 Mindset Monday – July 13

Listen to Understand

Most conversations aren't won by having the perfect response. They're strengthened by listening.

Humility gives us the ability to stop thinking about what we're going to say next and start paying attention to what someone else is actually saying. When we listen with the goal of understanding instead of defending our position, relationships change.

People don't always need advice. Sometimes they simply need to know they've been heard.

Listening is one of the simplest ways we show respect.

Who in your life could benefit from being heard a little more this week?

🎉 Congratulations on 3 Years, Emily! 💜

Today we're celebrating another amazing milestone at our Orange Street Phase 2 Women's Home as Emily marks 3 years in recovery.

Emily joined the Into Action community after she had already begun building a strong foundation in recovery, and we're grateful she's been part of our journey. Her willingness to stay open, honest, and committed has made her an important part of the Orange Street community.

As Emily shared:

"Recovery isn't about being perfect—it's about continuing to choose recovery, even on the difficult days, and never giving up."

She credits her family, the women in her house, and the Into Action community for helping her continue moving forward through support, honesty, and encouragement.

Emily, congratulations on this incredible accomplishment. Three years is something to be proud of, and we can't wait to see what the future holds. One day at a time. 💙🏡

🎉 Celebrating 4 Years of Recovery – Congratulations, Britiny! 💜

Today we're celebrating an incredible milestone for Britiny, who is marking 4 years in recovery while continuing to thrive at our Phase 2 Women's Home on Orange Street.

Britiny's story is a reminder that sometimes all someone needs is a chance. She came to Into Action at the last minute, unsure of where she would go after treatment. Four years later, she's built something she once couldn't imagine—a stable life, a good job, lasting sobriety, and a community she knows she can count on.

As Britiny shared:
"Thanks to this amazing sober community, I have grown into a strong, independent person in long-term sobriety."
She also reflected that four years ago, she never thought she'd make it beyond six months without sabotaging everything she had worked so hard for. Today, she's living proof that recovery isn't just about putting down substances—it's about building a life worth protecting.

Britiny, we are incredibly proud of the woman you've become. Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your journey. Your determination, humility, and willingness to keep moving forward inspire everyone around you.

Congratulations on 4 years. Here's to everything you've accomplished—and everything that's still ahead. 💙🏡

🌄 Mindset Monday – July 6

Respond, Don't React

Welcome to a new month of Mindset Monday.

July is the seventh month, so we're going to spend the next few weeks exploring one of the most practical ideas in recovery: humility. Not as a concept, but as something we can practice every day—in our conversations, our relationships, and the choices we make.

It starts with learning the difference between reacting and responding.

A reaction is immediate. It's driven by emotion, pride, fear, frustration, or old habits. It usually says more about what's happening inside of us than what's actually happening around us.

A response begins with a pause.

That pause gives us time to think, listen, and choose our next move instead of letting the moment choose it for us. It allows us to respond based on our values rather than our emotions.

None of us gets this right every time. But every time we slow down, take a breath, and choose a thoughtful response over an emotional reaction, we're building a new way of living.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is pause.

Can you think of a time when taking a moment before responding changed the outcome?

🌄 Mindset Monday – June 29

Ready For Something Different?

You grow tired of repeating the same reactions. The same resentment. The same patterns.

Then something shifts.

You become ready
to respond differently.
To let go.
To grow.

That willingness changes everything.

What’s one pattern you’re finally ready to let go of?

💙 A New Resource for Recovery Professionals Starts This July! 💻

We're excited to see Makin' It Happen At the Bedside, a new monthly recovery meeting created specifically for professionals who are both working in the recovery field and living in recovery themselves.

Those who work in prevention, treatment, recovery housing, harm reduction, peer support, and related professions often face unique challenges and perspectives. Having a dedicated space to connect with others who understand that experience is a great addition to our recovery community.

Beginning this July:

🗓 Third Monday of every month
🕕 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
💻 Online

Each meeting features a short speaker followed by an open discussion, providing an opportunity to share experiences, gain perspective, and connect with others in the field.

To Join: Please email [email protected] for online meeting information.

Thank you to Makin' It Happen for creating this forum for recovery professionals. We look forward to seeing this community grow.
