Our next staff member we are featuring for this month is Kaitlyn:

Job title and how long you’ve worked at Hearing and Speech Center:

I am one of the Patient Care Coordinators. I have been at the Hearing and Speech Center for 3 years today! I started on June 9th, 2023, which is also my birthday.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love our patients and enjoy knowing that I am a part of helping them hear their very best. I also enjoy my co-workers and how we all work together as a team. We have a great group, and it makes work enjoyable!

What do you like doing in your free time?

In my free time you will find me spending it with my family; which consists of my husband, 14-year-old son, a dog, and two cats; reading a good book, cooking/baking new recipes, going to concerts, and taking our black lab, Raven, for a walk. I also enjoy the summer months spent outdoors hiking trails or spent by the lake. Have to get out and enjoy the nice weather while we have it here in Minnesota!

Where is the farthest place you have traveled to?

Clearwater Beach, Florida for my honeymoon. It was both my husband and I’s first time on an airplane and our first time seeing the ocean. We had fun experiencing that together!

Favorite foods/restaurants:

Some of my favorite foods are Mexican and Chinese dishes. The sesame chicken from Hunan Lion here in Marshall is one of my favorites. I also enjoy Mariachis; they have the best chips and salsa!

Since we did a little getting to know the providers from our office, it’s only fair that we do the same for our office staff! Up first is LuAnn:

Job title and how long you’ve worked at Hearing and Speech Center:

Started off as the Patient Care Coordinator and am now the Office Manager. I’ve been with the team for 8.5 years.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I absolutely love our patients. I enjoy hearing about their lives and the stories they have to share. I hope each and every one of our patients and their families feel comfortable and cared for when they step through our door.

What do you like doing in your free time?

In an ideal world, I’d love to get back to traveling and reading and visiting new restaurants with old friends. I spend my free time with my family living on an acreage raising beef cattle and all the hard work that comes along with that. We enjoy taking trips together as a family, even if it is to go pick up hay and feed. Life is pretty darn good.

Where is the farthest place you have traveled to?

I believe the farthest has been Hawaii. My oldest son and I took a two-week vacation there and had a terrific time. He took a surfing lesson, and we took a catamaran along the Na Pali Coast. I’ve also been on a cruise, did a 4-H exchange trip to Canada (eh), Mexico several times, and travelled to many states. Colorado is one of my favorites. My hope is to travel to Norway to see where my ancestors lived. My last name, Hyland, was settled on when they came to America and wanted to remember the highlands of Norway.

Favorite foods/restaurants:

My favorite foods would have to be nachos and lo mein. Usually, hole in the wall places have the best food.

Our last (but not least) provider we are featuring for the month is Dr. Amber Beck!

What made you want to be a hearing provider?

I have always wanted to work in a setting where I could help people. While working in a nursing home, I witnessed firsthand the significant impact hearing loss can have on communication, independence, and overall well-being. This experience inspired me to pursue a career as a hearing healthcare professional, where I can help people hear better and improve their overall quality of life.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy meeting new people and building meaningful relationships while helping individuals improve their hearing. It is incredibly rewarding to witness the positive impact that better hearing can have on a person’s daily life and overall well-being. My goal is to help every individual experience the world with the best hearing possible.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends. I have been blessed with a wonderful husband, a one-year-old little girl, and a baby boy arriving in June. Some of my favorite days are the ones that start with a relaxed morning with my family, followed by playdates with my sisters and their children.

Farthest place you have traveled to?

Cancun, Mexico for my honeymoon.

Something on your bucket list?

I would love to travel to Europe someday.

Our next provider we are featuring is Greg Baartman! Here are his answers to the questions we asked him:

What do you like most about your job?

The greatest part of my job is helping people to live better lives. I enjoy hearing everyone’s success stories after I have worked with them. Many times, I meet people who are living life disconnected from social situations. Then later, after I have fit their hearing loss, I get to hear new stories about their experiences in everyday life. Most days it doesn’t feel like work.

What made you want to be a hearing provider?

Growing up, my grandpa had a significant hearing loss, and it bothered me to know how disconnected he was from the rest of the family when we were together. Later in life, I discovered what hearing technology could do, and it sparked my interest in helping people.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy family life. I’ve been blessed with my wife, two sons, a daughter, and now grandchildren. I enjoy our church life and our time with friends. I am also a student of music. I play guitar, drums, and banjo. My next focus will be taking grandchildren fishing and hunting as they grow.

Where is the farthest place you have traveled to?

I spent a week in Haiti.
