At MSLT, We structure our social groups with a neurodiversity-affirming lense. Rather than encoruage masking, we want kiddos to be able to use social tools contextually, while still providing opportunities so self-advocate for their unique sensory or communication needs. We don't expecet children to change who they are to meet their group goals, but to leave group with more strategies to navigate their world.

Interested? We are looking to organize groups with preschool, elementary, and middle school students. Send us an email to learn more!

Not a flashcard in sight πŸ‘€....
Already have so these toys in your house?
πŸ’‘yup! It's not the toys that make the difference- it's how YOU use them. It may take some thinking outside the box. When shopping for toys to encourage langauge consider:
πŸ’žIs there more than one way to play?
πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈIs there a chance to share the toy? Or can only one person use it at a time?
🌈What concepts does this toy teach? Does my child need to learn that right now?
πŸ‘§Does my child LIKE this kind of play?
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘¦Would I feel bored/frustrated playing with this toy, or could I find joy spending time playing with my child with this item?

Screen Time. We all probably have a little too much of it. What's the harm anyway?πŸ’»
The reality is, regardless of ability level, screens can have a negative impact on langauge growth and emotional regulation skills. They are a part of our world, though. Limiting screen time and making it collaborative is the best way to make it educational.

Happy Marathon Monday! While the runners are counting miles let's go through some MILEstones! (...get it?)
No baby comes into the world knowing how to say every sound. Here are current guidelines on when kiddos start to use their sounds correctly, and when a speech referral is warranted. The most common age we get referrals is 4-5, but we have helped children with their speech as young as two!
