How much milk you pump is only one piece of the puzzle.

I’ve worked with many mothers who were convinced they had a low milk supply based solely on what they saw in the bottle, when their babies were growing beautifully and getting exactly what they needed at the breast.

Pump output can be influenced by fl**ge fit, pump settings, time of day, stress, sleep, and so much more.

Before assuming your supply is low, take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Sometimes the numbers we’re focusing on are creating more anxiety than clarity.

Your pump is a tool. It is not a report card. 🤍

When families come to see me for feeding support, one of the first things I ask about is their pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum experience.

That’s because feeding doesn’t happen in isolation.

Birth experiences can influence feeding, milk production, infant behavior, recovery, confidence, and even how a mother is adjusting emotionally during the transition to parenthood.

The details surrounding pregnancy, birth, and postpartum often provide valuable clues that help me better understand what’s happening now and create a plan that supports both mother and baby.

Because feeding is only one piece of the story. 🤍

Let’s Talk About the Haakaa — Helpful or Harmful?

The Haakaa can be a game-changer… when used with intention.

✨ Yes, it’s convenient.
✨ Yes, it can save milk.
✨ But no — it’s not without downsides if overused.

🔄 Avoid Triggering Oversupply:
Using the Haakaa too often or for too long (especially on the opposite breast during every feed) can lead to overstimulation — which may create an oversupply. That can mean engorgement, clogged ducts, or a baby struggling with fast letdowns.

Use it Wisely:
✔️ Briefly after feeds to relieve fullness
✔️ When you’re engorged and baby’s not ready to nurse
✔️ When you want to collect a little without setting up the full pump

🚫 Avoid using it before baby nurses — it can pull the “easy” milk and impact baby’s intake and weight gain over time.

The Haakaa should support your feeding goals, not complicate them.

Got questions about how to use one in your routine? I’m here to help you personalize your plan. 💬

One of the most common questions I get is, “What’s the best bottle?”

The truth is that there isn’t one bottle that’s best for every baby.

Bottle selection should consider more than marketing claims or what’s trending online. The material of the bottle, ni**le shape, ni**le material, flow rate, and most importantly your baby’s oral anatomy all play a role in finding the right fit.

While I frequently recommend Lansinoh and Evenflo Balance bottles, the best choice is ultimately the one that supports your baby’s feeding skills and allows them to feed comfortably and efficiently.

Your baby’s mouth should help choose the bottle. ❤️

📣 Let’s Talk About It: When People Are Rude About Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is a personal decision, rooted in love, biology, and the best intentions for baby and parent. So when someone makes rude or dismissive comments—whether it’s in public, at family gatherings, or even from a healthcare provider—it can feel discouraging, disrespectful, and isolating.

Let’s be clear:
🍼 Feeding your baby is not up for public debate.
🤱🏽 Breastfeeding is normal, valid, and deserves respect.
🚫 Shaming someone for how they feed their baby is never okay.

To anyone who’s ever been on the receiving end of a rude comment: you are not alone. You don’t owe anyone an explanation, and you don’t need to justify your choices. You are doing what’s best for your family.

Let’s keep building a world where breastfeeding is seen, supported, and respected—everywhere.

You don’t need more opinions. You need support that helps you trust yourself again.

Somewhere along the way, many parents stop listening to their own instincts and start searching for answers everywhere else. The result? Information overload, self-doubt, and feeling like you’re constantly getting it wrong.

Professional guidance has its place. So do trusted friends and family. But none of those voices should drown out your ability to learn and understand your own baby.

The goal isn’t to make you dependent on someone else’s answers.

The goal is to help you feel confident making decisions for your family. 🤍

Just because feeding feels “fine” today doesn’t mean you won’t have questions tomorrow.

Babies change quickly, and feeding often changes right along with them. A check-in can help you stay ahead of common challenges, make a plan for upcoming transitions, and give you peace of mind that things are moving in the right direction.

Sometimes reassurance is just as valuable as intervention. 🤍
