Dr. Teralyn

Dr. Teralyn Dr. Teralyn Sell, PhD. Psychology-led, biology-informed authority on psychiatric medication decision-making and deprescribing. PhD on a mission! I’m really o.k.

Focused on judgment, informed consent, and long-term outcomes, without urgency, shortcuts, or reassurance-based care. You’ve Tried Everything & You Still Feel Like Sh!t

Sometimes I get told that I’m pretty much the last stop that my clients make. They come to me exhausted, disappointed, frustrated and basically tapped out. Western medicine has all but failed them and they are left feeling ‘blah’

from a bunch of prescriptions and no light at the end of the tunnel. with being the last stop because you always find what you’re looking for in the last place you look. Let’s get you feeling better, Naturally! Whether I’m the first place you’ve stopped at or the last place you will ever need I am completely stoked to help you not only feel better faster, but also really uncover why you felt that way in the first place. While we can’t change what you have endured in the past, we can work together to better comprehend and settle the challenges you face today. It’s time to stop holding back on your life and start moving forward, naturally!

Who is in charge here anyway? Window versus wave

If addiction treatment worked the way it's marketed, we'd be asking a very different question.
Instead, too many people encounter the same script:
➡️ Go to more meetings.
➡️ Complete another worksheet.
➡️ Trust the expert.
➡️ Add another medication.
➡️ Maybe you're bipolar.
➡️ Repeat.
Somewhere along the way, the conversation shifts from recovery to management.
People leave treatment on stacks of medications they never expected to take. Diagnoses seem to multiply. The meetings keep coming. The worksheets keep coming. The bills keep coming.
But ask a simple question:
What are the long-term outcomes?
That's where things often get surprisingly quiet.
This isn't a criticism of recovery. It's a criticism of systems that demand trust while avoiding accountability.
A coloring book is not a treatment plan. A medication stack is not proof of progress. Everyone cannot be bipolar. And "just go to more meetings" is not the answer to every problem.
The goal isn't to create lifelong patients.
The goal is to help people build lives they no longer need to escape from.

not sure if you picked up on it, but the horror film is about seeing everything in extremes. Also research in psychiatry and psychology is fraught with problems

My last kid is officially leaving the nest.
After more than three decades of being a parent first, this is the moment you work toward the entire time. You raise them to be independent, capable, and ready to build a life of their own.
It's everything we want for our kids.
And it's emotional anyway.
I'm incredibly proud of the person they've become. But there is no way to close a 30-year chapter of your life without feeling it.
Here's to new beginnings—for both of us. ❤️

Most people spend more time researching a vacation than they do a major health decision.
A new medication. A new diagnosis. A new treatment plan.
The pressure is often to act quickly.
But speed is not the same thing as good judgment.
Slowing down long enough to understand the potential benefits, risks, alternatives, and long-term consequences is not resistance to treatment. It's informed consent.
The decisions that shape your future deserve more than a rushed conversation.
Pause long enough to know what you're saying yes to.
