Dear Friends -
As this is the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, we just want to remember Palace Royale resident Alan Gross's heroic efforts in getting Lower Manhattan back in working order.
From the first moment, he worked tirelessly in a recovery effort that lasted for more than a year, getting victims, businesses, families and residents back on their feet.
Under the banner of the New York City agency Safe Horizon, where he worked as a pro-bono Mediator and Staff member, Alan jumped into action by organizing a massive number of volunteers - nearly 1100 - to assist in the complex process of compensation, resettlement and counselling.
The Federal Government recognized his efforts, awarding him "Volunteer of the Year" for 2001. The Attorney General called him personally to tell him he had won. He had no idea that Safe Horizon had nominated him for the honor.
He was flown to Washington, put up in a beautiful hotel for three days, and Alan was celebrated with two other kinds of volunteers at a luncheon awards ceremony.
