Goodies from Japan.🌿

We just got the good stuff β€” moxa flown in straight from Kobayashi in the Shiga Prefecture, the same manufacturer Christina's teacher, Kiiko Matsumoto, introduced her to. This isn't something you'll find at a wellness store down the street.

Curious what it smells like, feels like, does? Come find out for yourself.

Before we ever explain what we're doing, we're usually already listening β€” through touch.

Hara diagnosis is the practice of reading the abdomen for patterns of tension, cold, or imbalance that don't always show up in words. It's central to the Kiiko Matsumoto style we practice, and it means treatment often starts before you've said a single symptom out loud.

Your body's already talking. We're just trained to hear it.

Not everyone is ready to jump straight into needles β€” and moxibustion can be a gentler way to start.

Okyu, the Japanese thread-moxa technique we practice, uses the gentle, penetrating heat of burning mugwort. It's one of Christina's favorite tools for post-op recovery and stubborn swelling, and often a more approachable entry point if needles have kept you away from acupuncture until now.

The series continues. After the Heart, we move to its Fire-element partner: the Small Intestine.

Christina's still mulling this one over β€” literally. Follow along as she unpacks what this organ has to teach us about discernment, digestion, and the art of separating what serves you from what doesn't.

A migraine rarely shows up out of nowhere. It's usually the last step in a pattern β€” tension that built up, sleep that got cut short, a cycle shifting, stress that never really left the body.

That's why treating migraines as one isolated symptom so often falls short. Acupuncture works by looking at what's feeding the pattern β€” circulation, tension, hormonal rhythm β€” and treating that underlying picture, not just the headache in front of us.

If migraines have been part of your routine longer than you'd like, it might be time to look at what's underneath them.

Pain doesn't always show up where it starts. A trigger point β€” a tight, irritated knot in the muscle β€” can sit quietly in your shoulder and still send pain radiating down your arm, or settle in your neck and show up as a headache days later.

Trigger point therapy is one of the tools we reach for most. Precise, targeted needling releases the knot directly, restoring range of motion and easing referred pain β€” often within the same session. It's a specialty of Veronica's practice in particular, alongside orthopedic and neuro-acupuncture work.

If pain has been showing up somewhere it doesn't seem to belong, this might be exactly why.

Some nights it's not that your mind won't quiet down β€” it's that your body never got the signal it's safe to.

Insomnia is rarely just about sleep itself. It's often your nervous system stuck in a state of alert, long after the day's actual stress has passed. Acupuncture works to calm that overactive state directly, helping your body shift out of fight-or-flight and back into the rhythm rest depends on.

If you've been lying awake more than you'd like lately, it might be less about counting sheep and more about calming the system underneath.

Christian de La Huerta is coming back to Sanctuario de la Paz.

Soulful Breathwork works on every level at once β€” physical, mental, emotional, spiritual β€” using breath as the tool to move what's been stuck and make room for something new. Past trauma, built-up stress, the stuff that's hard to name but easy to feel in the body: this is a practice built to meet all of it.

If the idea of needles has kept you away from acupuncture, this one's for you.

Christina practices a Japanese style β€” trained for years in the Kiiko Matsumoto lineage β€” built around needles so fine most patients barely feel them. It's a different experience than what people usually picture, and it's a big part of why so many patients who were nervous at first end up coming back weekly.

No exaggeration on the falling asleep part, either.
