Today is National Donut Day - Celebrating the bravery of The Salvation Army Donut Lassies since 1938. Did you know: the Lassies were sent to France in 1917 to establish field bases near the front lines. In makeshift huts, thousands of Soldiers would come to stock up on essential goods and grab a sweet treat baked by the Lassies.
Thank you to The Salvation Army Milwaukee County for distributing donuts to Veterans and staff this morning at the Milwaukee VA! 🍩

Eat locally and support locally grown foods. June kicks off the farmers market season in Wisconsin. Farmers markets provide access to fresher and healthier quality foods, especially fruits and veggies. Fresh ingredients enhance cooking meals at home. Shop farm-to-table to get the most nutrients from your food.

It's World Bicycle Day! Recently Spinal Cord Injury/Disorder Veterans at the Milwaukee VA had the opportunity to ride bikes that fit their needs.

Milwaukee VA's Spinal Cord Injury/Disorder recreation therapy team, Paralyzed Veterans of America Sports & recreation, and Project Mobility conducted an Intro to Paracycling clinic May 20-21 focused on the beginning of the cycling season and getting riders out on the trails for the first time. The clinic was also an opportunity for SCI/D Veterans to trial adaptive cycles post diagnosis.

LEARN CPR: June 1-7 is CPR Week, and the Simulation Center at the Milwaukee VA invites you to stop by the South Entrance of Building 111 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 5, to:
• Practice hands-only CPR and using AED.
• Learn about Narcan (naloxone) and practice administering it.
• Pick up informational packets.
• Receive information on how to sign up for the Resuscitation Quality Improvement Program hands-only CPR course.
• Enjoy free popcorn, while supplies last.
Why learn CPR? CPR, if performed immediately, can double or triple a cardiac arrest victim's chance of survival. If you are called on to give CPR in an emergency, you will most likely be trying to save the life of someone you love: a child, a spouse, a parent or a friend.

VETS GIVE BACK: Veterans involved in the Compensated Work Therapy-Transitional Residential program at the Milwaukee VA did a community give-back project Sunday, May 31. They traveled to Another Chance Ranch Animal Sanctuary in Neosho to build a fence. Another Chance Ranch is a no-kill animal shelter that takes in animals that have been neglected, abused and abandoned and have no other chance for adoption or fostering. Materials for the project were donated by Vietnam Veteran Bob, and the equipment rental was donated by Marine Veteran Ryan, who both assisted with the project. The CWT program provides vocational rehabilitation services to help Veterans secure employment, and the TR program provides temporary housing for Veterans taking part in CWT programs.
