Janine began volunteering with the Mobile SPCA in 1985. What started as an act of compassion became a lifetime devoted to homeless animals and the people who loved them. For more than four decades, she stood at the heart of this organization, guiding it with unwavering determination, boundless energy, and a heart that never stopped fighting for those who could not speak for themselves.
The Mobile SPCA that exists today is, in so many ways, Janine's legacy. She championed innovative adoption programs, including off-site adoptions, led the effort to build a dedicated adoption center where dogs and cats could be cared for while waiting for loving homes, expanded access to affordable spay and neuter assistance, and pioneered our transport program, which has given literally thousands upon thousands of animals the chance to begin wonderful new lives with families in northern states. Her vision transformed not only our organization, but the lives of countless animals and the people who welcomed them into their homes.
Running an organization of this size requires extraordinary dedication, and Janine gave it willingly, day after day, year after year. She inspired volunteers, encouraged staff, comforted adopters, and earned the respect of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her perseverance, integrity, and unwavering commitment shaped the Mobile SPCA into the organization it is today.
It is difficult to imagine a Mobile SPCA without Janine at the helm. Yet, through her leadership, she prepared us for that day. She leaves behind an organization strengthened by her vision, guided by her example, and filled with people who share her passion for helping animals.
There will never be another Janine Woods. We will miss her deeply, but we will honor her in the most meaningful way possible: by carrying forward the work she devoted her life to. Every animal rescued, every family made whole through adoption, and every life saved will stand as a testament to her extraordinary legacy.
Thank you, Janine, for your decades of compassion, leadership, and tireless service. Your fingerprints will forever remain on this organization, and your spirit will live on in every life the Mobile SPCA continues to save.
We know that is exactly what you would have wanted.
