Mobile’s third annual Abilities Resource Fair brought families, service providers and community organizations together at Tillman’s Corner Community Center last week.

The event included games, crafts, local resources and a free wheelchair wash for children and adults who use mobility equipment.

👟 Good adaptive design begins by listening to the people who will use it.

When adidas developed its new adaptive performance shoe, the design team worked directly with athletes with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, limb differences and visual impairments.

Their input shaped features intended to make the shoe easier to put on, adjust and wear comfortably during activity.

Accessibility works best when disabled people are included throughout the design process—not simply asked to evaluate the finished product.

This week marks the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The ADA protects access and equal opportunity in education, employment, transportation, public services and community spaces.

For children and families, accessibility can mean an inclusive playground, appropriate school supports, an accessible entrance, adaptive recreation or the ability to participate alongside peers.

Access is not an extra. It is part of belonging.

⛳ Sports have a wonderful way of bringing people together.

After a video of his golf game captured hearts online, Florida golfer Jared Stancil is enjoying new opportunities to share his love of the sport with even more people.
Stories like Jared's remind us that recreation isn't just about competition—it's about building confidence, friendships, independence, and finding activities that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Every child deserves the opportunity to discover activities that bring them joy and help them stay active throughout life.

🏋️ Strength comes in many forms.

A Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi student with spina bifida is making waves in competitive powerlifting, demonstrating the determination, discipline, and hard work that go into reaching athletic goals.

Every child and adult deserves opportunities to discover activities they enjoy and to participate in sports in ways that work for their individual abilities. Whether it's powerlifting, swimming, biking, golf, or simply playing at the park, movement builds confidence, supports health, and creates lifelong opportunities for participation.
We're always excited to celebrate athletes of all abilities who remind us that there are many paths to an active lifestyle.

Islanders powerlifter Ian Webb lifted a personal best bench press of 336 pounds. He has always been a competitor, even though he was born with spina bifida. Webb's passion overpowers any obstacles.

⛳ Adaptive sports create opportunities for movement, confidence, and lifelong participation.

A golfer with cerebral palsy is demonstrating that with the right opportunities and determination, sports can be enjoyed at every age and ability level.

Whether it's golf, swimming, biking, tennis, or simply playing in the backyard, movement helps build strength, coordination, confidence, and community.

Every child deserves opportunities to discover activities they enjoy and can continue throughout life.

🚲 Learning to ride a bike is about so much more than two wheels.

Riding a bike supports balance, coordination, strength, endurance, and independence—but it also opens the door to family activities, friendships, recreation, and lifelong physical activity.

We love seeing programs that help children achieve meaningful milestones while having fun along the way.

The saying goes, "it's as easy as riding a bike," and one Orlando summer camp is making that phrase a reality for dozens of people with Down syndrome.

"The diagnosis was frightening, but the facts were not."

Medical understanding of Down syndrome has changed dramatically over the past several decades.

This thoughtful article looks at today's realities—including improved health care, longer life expectancy, and the importance of accurate information for families receiving a diagnosis.

Every child deserves to be seen for their potential, and every family deserves compassionate, evidence-based information. 💙

“Women are fully capable of making difficult decisions, but meaningful choice requires trusted, vetted information,” writes Michelle Sie Whitten of the Global Down Syndrome Foundation.

One of the biggest advances in pediatric therapy isn't a new treatment—it's identifying cerebral palsy earlier, allowing children to begin therapy sooner.

Earlier diagnosis gives families more opportunities to support movement, play, and developmental progress during a critical time of brain development.

Early intervention matters, and it's encouraging to see continued progress in helping families access support sooner. 💚

Multistate study led in part by Vanderbilt Kennedy Center shows cerebral palsy in children is being identified sooner, opening doors for earlier intervention.
