It's a Monday Myth Buster from WVABLE!

❌ MYTH: An individual with a disability must receive SSI or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) to be eligible for an ABLE account.

✅ FACT: Individuals with a disability do NOT have to be receiving public benefits, including SSI or SSDI to be eligible for WVABLE. As long as they have a qualifying disability with an onset before age 46, they can enroll and start saving in a WVABLE STABLE Account. This way, they can save and invest tax free and benefit from the WV State income tax deductions for contributions made into the STABLE account.

✨ Meet another one of our WVATS Advisory Council members! ✨

This week, we're excited to spotlight Autumn Henkes, founder and executive director of the Skylar Henkes Foundation.

Inspired by the life of her daughter, Skylar, the foundation is dedicated to helping individuals with developmental disabilities across Appalachia access adaptive equipment, therapy-related items, adaptive sports equipment, and inclusive opportunities that are often not covered by insurance. Through the sale of seasonal flowers grown on their Mercer County farm, every bouquet helps fund grants that make a meaningful difference for families throughout the region.

Autumn's passion for advocacy, inclusion, and improving access to assistive technology makes her a valued member of the WVATS Advisory Council. We are grateful for her dedication to helping individuals with disabilities live more independent and fulfilling lives.

🌻 Learn more about the incredible work of the Skylar Henkes Foundation and how you can support their mission by visiting their website and following their page.
