💭 CAN WE TALK ABOUT SUPPORTING LOCAL FOR A MINUTE?
I’ve been thinking about something lately, and I want to open up a conversation.
Whenever a big-name franchise announces it’s coming to town, there’s so much excitement. People share the news, tag their friends, count down the days until opening, and can’t wait to try it.
And don’t get me wrong, I love seeing our town grow and new businesses come in!
But here’s what I wish…
I wish our locally owned, one-of-a-kind businesses got that same level of excitement and support.
The ones that took a chance, signed a lease, invested their savings, hired local employees, and show up day after day hoping their community continues to choose them.
And with fall festival season here, there are even more opportunities to support local—not just by visiting neighborhood storefronts, but by showing up at community events, shopping with local vendors, buying from small businesses, and choosing to support the people who make these festivals special.
As the owner of Eastside Blends, I can tell you that running a small business isn’t always easy. There are long hours, sacrifices, and plenty of days when you wonder if you’re doing enough.
But there’s also something incredibly rewarding about knowing your customers by name, watching their families grow, building friendships, and creating a place that feels like part of the community.
I’m not saying don’t support the new places. There’s room for everyone.
I’m simply asking… when was the last time we got just as excited about a business that’s already here?
A recommendation, a social media share, bringing a friend, leaving a positive review, shopping with a local vendor at a fall festival, or choosing to spend your money locally can make a bigger difference than you might realize.
Because if we want our town to keep its unique, locally owned businesses, we have to continue showing up for them—at their storefronts, at community events, and wherever they’re working to serve us.
❤️ Here’s my question for you:
What’s a locally owned business, vendor, or maker in Mt. Washington or Bullitt County that deserves more love and recognition?

I’d love to see this turn into a conversation where we all discover and support more of the small businesses that make our community special.
