Pride Month can be a celebration.

And it can also bring grief.

For many LGBTQIA+ individuals, Pride Month may highlight the relationships that never felt safe, the support that was missing, opportunities that were lost, or the version of themselves they had to hide in order to survive.

While others are celebrating, some are grieving.

And both experiences are valid.

You can feel pride in who you are while mourning the acceptance you didn't receive.

You can feel hopeful about the future while grieving the past.

You can celebrate your growth while acknowledging the pain it took to get here.

Healing doesn't require choosing one emotion over another.

You are allowed to hold both.

If Pride Month feels complicated this year, know that you are not alone. There is space for joy. There is space for grief. There is space for everything in between.

You belong here. 💜

Brick Street Counseling provides inclusive counseling that meets you where you are.

Pride Month is about more than celebration.

For many LGBTQIA+ individuals, everyday life can involve code-switching, masking, people-pleasing, or shrinking parts of themselves just to feel safe, accepted, or understood.

That kind of emotional labor can be exhausting.

Everyone deserves spaces where they don't have to explain, defend, or hide who they are.

Affirming support means being able to show up as your full self. It means being heard, respected, and valued without judgment. It means knowing that your identity is not something that needs to be fixed.

At Brick Street Counseling, we believe that healing happens when people feel safe enough to be authentic.

If you've spent years feeling like you had to make yourself smaller to fit into someone else's expectations, this is your reminder that you deserve support, belonging, and space to take up exactly as much room as you need.

You belong here. 💜

Inclusive counseling that meets you where you are.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, this is your reminder that mental health conversations matter all year long — not just in May.

This month, we talked about anxiety, trauma, grief, personality disorders, mood disorders, LGBTQIA+ mental health, teen mental health, college transitions, and the quiet struggles so many people carry behind the scenes every day.

And if there’s one thing worth remembering, it’s this:

You never truly know what someone is carrying internally.

The people who seem “fine” may be overwhelmed.
The people who keep showing up may be exhausted.
The people who smile the most may still be hurting.

Mental health struggles do not make someone weak, dramatic, attention-seeking, lazy, or broken. They make them human.

Healing is not linear. Growth is uncomfortable sometimes. Asking for help can feel vulnerable. And progress does not always happen in loud, visible ways.

But support matters.
Connection matters.
Compassion matters.
And people deserve spaces where they feel safe enough to be honest about what they’re going through.

If this month helped you feel seen, understood, or less alone in any way, hold onto that feeling.

You deserve support not just in crisis — but in the everyday moments too. 💛

Maybe lately you’ve noticed that you’re constantly overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, overstimulated, anxious, or just trying to make it through the day without completely shutting down.

Maybe you’re the person everyone depends on — the one who keeps showing up, keeps functioning, keeps holding everything together — while internally feeling like you’re running on empty.

Maybe your mind never really slows down.
Maybe you overthink everything.
Maybe your emotions feel too big sometimes.
Maybe you’re struggling with burnout, grief, trauma, relationship stress, self-worth, identity, or feeling disconnected from yourself.

And maybe you’ve been telling yourself you should be able to handle it on your own by now.

You don’t have to.

At Brick Street Counseling, I work with teens (14+) and adults who are tired of surviving and ready to start feeling more grounded, understood, and emotionally safe.

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, nonjudgmental, and practical — blending evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, and ACT with real, human conversation and support.

Mental Health Awareness Month is also about challenging the stigma surrounding personality disorders — especially borderline personality disorder (BPD).

People living with BPD are often deeply misunderstood.

What many people don’t see is the intensity of the emotional pain underneath the diagnosis: fear of abandonment, difficulty trusting relationships, emotional overwhelm, shame, identity struggles, impulsivity, feeling “too much,” difficulty regulating emotions, or constantly fearing rejection and disconnection.

Many individuals with BPD are not manipulative, attention-seeking, “crazy,” or impossible to help — despite the harmful stereotypes they may have encountered.

They are often people who learned to survive overwhelming emotions, invalidation, trauma, instability, or relational wounds without the support, safety, or emotional tools they needed at the time.

And recovery is possible.

With support, self-awareness, healthier coping skills, emotional regulation work, boundaries, and safe relationships, people with BPD can build stable, meaningful, connected lives.

Healing is not about becoming emotionless. It is about learning how to experience emotions without being consumed by them.

If you are living with BPD or traits related to emotional dysregulation, you are not broken, “too much,” or beyond help. You deserve compassionate, evidence-based support that sees the person beyond the diagnosis. 💛

Mental Health Awareness Month is also about recognizing how exhausting it can be to live with anxiety disorders — especially when so many people are silently struggling behind the scenes.

Anxiety is more than “just worrying.”

It can look like overthinking every interaction. Constantly preparing for worst-case scenarios. Feeling mentally and physically exhausted from being stuck in survival mode. Difficulty relaxing even when nothing is technically wrong. Racing thoughts. Panic attacks. Avoidance. Irritability. Trouble sleeping. Feeling like your brain never fully shuts off.

And sometimes, people with anxiety become so used to functioning in a constant state of stress that they don’t even realize how overwhelmed they truly are.

High-functioning anxiety can still be anxiety.

You do not have to wait until you completely burn out to deserve support.

Therapy can help people better understand anxiety patterns, build healthier coping skills, regulate nervous system responses, set boundaries, reduce avoidance, and learn how to move through life with more safety and self-compassion.

Healing does not mean never feeling anxious again. It means anxiety no longer controlling every part of your life.

If you’ve been carrying anxiety quietly for a long time, you are not weak, dramatic, “too sensitive,” or failing. You deserve support too. 💛

There’s been a lot of conversation lately in the therapy world about insurance reimbursement changes and what it means for clinicians long-term.

One of the biggest takeaways?
Many therapists are realizing how important it is to understand the foundations of credentialing and insurance paneling for themselves.

That’s exactly why I created:

🌿 Credentialing Made Clear: A Roadmap for Solo Practitioners

This live workshop is designed to help therapists better understand:
• NPI, EIN, and CAQH
• Insurance paneling foundations
• Platforms vs. independent credentialing
• Common mistakes that delay the process
• Building a more sustainable private practice

Mental Health Awareness Month is also about recognizing the impact that childhood trauma, family-of-origin wounds, and generational patterns can have on a person long after childhood ends.

Many survivors grew up learning to stay quiet, stay small, stay hyperaware, or take care of everyone else just to feel emotionally safe.

Sometimes trauma doesn’t come from one single event. Sometimes it comes from years of instability, criticism, emotional neglect, unpredictability, parentification, walking on eggshells, or never feeling fully seen, protected, or supported.

And often, people minimize their experiences because “others had it worse.”

But trauma is not measured by comparison. It is measured by impact.

Childhood trauma can continue showing up in adulthood through anxiety, people-pleasing, emotional dysregulation, perfectionism, shame, difficulty trusting others, fear of abandonment, chronic self-criticism, or feeling constantly emotionally exhausted.

Healing is possible — and healing does not require pretending the pain never existed.

Breaking generational cycles is hard work. Learning safety, boundaries, self-worth, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships after growing up without those models takes time and compassion.

If you are carrying wounds from childhood or family trauma, you are not weak for struggling with the impact of what you survived. You deserve support, healing, and the opportunity to build a life that feels safer, healthier, and more connected. 💛
