Year 5 for the Tabor Hills Gardening Group.
Like the "professionals" we have become, we quickly turned the garden into something beautiful!
The Columbine and Asian lilies returned stronger than the year before. Returning favorites were also added like lavender, snow crop, daisies, bellflower and the "best in show" from last year, gladiolas.
Veggies were planted for resident bunnies Zeus and Winnie as well as a pumpkin vine.
We also have great expectations for the new Hydrangea Vine planted below the center tree.
This year's helpers were...
🌸5 year Gardeners
Mary Anne Sorensen, Karissa Gerrans & Linda Roschi, Barbara Leitholf
🌸3 year Gardener
Kyle Sorensen
🌸Newbies
Kevin Sorensen & Margaret Berry
Tabor Hills Gardeners
Beth Meagher & Monica our new Resident Services Assistant.
Watch for photos this summer as our garden blooms!
As always, thank you to our amazing volunteers that make this possible every year!!

Working in a garden can offer numerous benefits for senior citizens, both physical and mental. Here are some of the key advantages:

👩‍🔧 Physical Exercise: Gardening involves various physical activities such as digging, planting, weeding, and watering, which can provide seniors with low-impact exercise. This helps improve flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular health.

🌞 Vitamin D: Spending time outdoors in the sunlight allows seniors to soak up vitamin D, which is essential for bone health and overall well-being. Vitamin D also helps regulate mood and supports the immune system.

☺️ Stress Reduction: Gardening has been shown to reduce stress and promote relaxation. The act of tending to plants and being surrounded by nature can lower cortisol levels and induce a sense of calmness.

Overall, working in a garden can significantly improve the quality of life for senior citizens by promoting physical activity, mental well-being, social interaction, and a deeper connection with nature. 🌷
