🎆 W O W 🎆 what a year.

2025 brought plenty of unexpected twists and turns — and still… what a blessing of a year.
With my pregnancy, I had to slow down during the second half, but that doesn’t take away from the incredible work and sacred moments that unfolded.

If anything, the magic didn’t slow at all — placentas actually increased compared to last year!! Shoutout to the amazing Courtney for never believing in “too many placentas”

And beyond births, our groups have slowly but surely grown — in size and in our hearts. 🤍
Cheers to coming up on 4 years of consistent groups, community, and support.

Some highlights from this year:
• I caught my first baby
• Attended my first twin birth — both born vaginally
• Welcomed my first parking-lot baby
• Witnessed a powerful HBAC that had me sobbing
• So many powerful birth stories shared in our circles and beyond
• Several multi-lobed placentas and the launch of new placenta package offerings
• Finished working on something really big that I can’t wait to share with you in 2026 👀✨

So much gratitude. So much awe. Onward. ✨

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Martinez. Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory. For those who didn’t know, our Modern Midwives family is growing again! 🌿
Olivia, who has been our wonderful office manager for the past three years, will be stepping back as she prepares to welcome her third baby earthside this spring.

She’s not going far though — Olivia will continue leading groups, hosting events, and connecting our community in her new role as Community & Content Manager. We’re so grateful she’ll still be part of the Modern Midwives family for years to come! 💛

Big update from me🥹 For the first time since 2016, I’m stepping away from being on call. 💛 This will be the longest break I’ve ever taken, and honestly, it feels a little strange to say out loud. Being in the birth space and walking alongside families has been such a constant part of my life, and I already know I’m going to miss it so much.

But this season is calling me to slow down, soak up time with my own growing family, and honor the pause. My calendar for the remainder of the year is fully booked and I plan to begin taking clients again about halfway through next year (depending), and I can’t wait to return with fresh energy and even more love to give. But of course, Courtney will be holding down the fort with placenta goods non stop!

Until then, thank you for being here with me through every chapter. ✨

The golden lining✨
Sometimes uncontrollable things happen in labor, birth, and even postpartum that were not part of the original plan; so we find different ways to honor the placenta. This mama is choosing to do so with a floral picture using flowers she planted the day prior to meeting her daughter, a golden cord keepsake, and a print of the organ that helped grow, nourish, and support her baby. She has plans to then plant her placenta with a tree in her yard, allowing it to continue to nourish and support while earthside. There are so many ways to honor and create keepsakes with your placenta, let us know if you have any in mind!

Did you get any keepsakes with your placenta, or are you planning to in the future? Share with us in the comments what you love(d) about it!
