People usually mean well. But when you’re going through IVF, even a well-intentioned comment can land very differently than the person saying it intended.
“Just relax.”
“Stay positive.”
“Everything happens for a reason.”
“Maybe you’re trying too hard.”
“At least you have IVF.”
IVF isn’t something that can be fixed with the right attitude, less stress, or a perfectly timed piece of advice. It can involve medications, injections, appointments, procedures, waiting, financial strain, uncertainty, disappointment, grief—and an enormous amount of emotional energy.
You don’t have to find the perfect thing to say to someone going through it.
Sometimes “I’m here. You don’t have to explain anything to me” is more than enough.
