Very happy to see all the progress made regarding HRT. Women have suffered too long, with too many symptoms due to misleading research.

Menopausal hormone therapies, also commonly referred to as hormone replacement therapy or HRT, are approved to provide relief from common menopause symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats.

Women may be under-utilizing approved therapies that can alleviate menopause symptoms and improve women’s health because of misleading U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) “black box” warnings that the agency is removing.

The New York Post published an article this past weekend regarding the concerning trend of unprovoked attacks/sucker punches targeting young women, causing a surge in demand for self-defense classes.

I happened to be training at the studio that day the photographer for the paper came, and got a photo of me and my training partner Amy put in the article.

I did not start taking Krav Maga because of any fear, but rather a desire to challenge myself in a new way. However, I do feel more confident in the streets and in better shape than ever before. Additionally, I found an awesome community of like-minded people. The classes bring me so much joy.

Ladies (and fella’s), just remember being aware of your surroundings is really your first line of defense. Too many of us have our faces stuffed in our phones and distracted from seeing potential threats. Second, get yourself some basic self-defense skills. There are many options out there as well as Krav Maga. The point is to never need it, but having the confidence and awareness you gain is priceless.

Happy Holidays from Acupuncture Bodywork!

We hope this holiday season finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy! This is a wonderful time of year not only to visit with family and friends but to take time for yourself to rest, relax and rejuvenate! Whether this means some time in the gym, a walk in the park, meditation, or reading a good book, it is important and allows you to be your best for yourself and everyone in your life.

Acupuncture Bodywork is closed from 12/22/23 through 1/03/24 and will reopen January 4th. If you have an emergency during that time, please feel free to reach out as I will be local. As always, you can book your future appointments online through the SCHEDULER. 2024 schedule is up and running.

Seasonal health Tips: It's that time of year again when upper respiratory issues are commonplace. It is important to make sure that you are getting enough fresh air, even in the cold, to combat the dry stagnant air in your home or office. Keeping windows cracked helps, as well as investing in a humidifier to moisten the air and keep mucus membranes lubricated and happy.

Your diet is going to be a major factor in preventing and treating upper respiratory illness. Two helpful reminders: avoid sugar as it can lower the immune system and reduce or eliminate dairy to clear up congestion. Even while indulging in holiday celebrations, these small, simple steps, along with sleeping enough, minimizing wheat and dairy plus exercising at least 20-30 minutes per day will help to keep that qi moving!

If you want or need extra support, Acupuncture Bodywork has a full line of supplements for immune support as well as wellness-enhancing treatments. Cupping and gua sha are great for preventing and treating common colds! Don't hesitate to call anytime to discuss the best treatment for your particular situation.

Drs. Travell and Simons define a trigger point as follows…

A hyperirritable spot, usually within a taut band of skeletal muscle or in the muscle’s fascia, that is painful on compression and that can give rise to characteristic referred pain.

Myofascial Trigger Points are one of the most prevalent sources of mysterious pain in the body and is not well-understood by the medical establishment.

This past weekend I attended the 2023 ASE Orthopedic Acupuncture Symposium ASE SEMINARS LLC] held at the Hyatt House in Tampa, FL.

The lectures from respected specialists in the acupuncture field were both enlightening and inspiring. I enjoyed the entire seminar. Some interesting topics and take aways were:

💎 The EXSTORE System, developed by Dr. Anthony Lombardi. This system helps assess musculoskeletal issues efficiently and treat imbalances using motor points to recalibrate inhibited muscles. I will continue to stimulate more motor points along with trigger point therapy to enhance clinical results. This is fun stuff!

💎 Darren O Rourke spent a generous amount of time discussing the intricacies of the temporomandibular joint, regarding structure and function. This is especially useful in the treatment for TMJ, which I am excited to incorporate into my treatments for my TMJ and jaw pain patients. In fact, just yesterday I utilized some of these new skills, and afterwards, my patient said, “ I feel like there is more space in my brain”. Wow!

💎 Jaime Chaves, lead us through an extensive discussion concerning the Shoulder Complex. He is a true scientist. His efficient yet thorough evaluations and treatment approach are unique and truly remarkable.

💎 Dr. Jamie Hampton’s work on Pelvic Floor Neuralgias and Chronic Bladder Pain/Interstitial Cystitis was extremely enlightening. It was fascinating to learn more about how to properly evaluate and treat these conditions from an orthopedic perspective.

💎 Dr. Lev Forman’s presentation was on lower back pain and rehabilitation. He discussed the interplay between the spine and the rest of the body and how it relates to the Pain to Performance Continuum.

I have returned from this conference feeling invigorated and have already begun to adopt some of these new techniques into my practice. Thank you to Josh ASE SEMINARS LLC], all the presenters, assistants, sponsors and colleagues. It was enjoyable meeting so many of you.
