In this week’s parsha, the Torah tells us: “Choose life.”
That command is about more than survival. Choosing life also means believing there is a future worth moving toward.
Gloria Steinem once said, “Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.”
For q***r people, dreaming can be an act of courage. Imagining the life you want. The people you want around you. The community you want to build. The version of yourself you are still becoming.
Those dreams are not frivolous. They are how futures begin.
This Shabbos, may we choose life by giving ourselves permission to imagine more of it 🌈✡️

Book Synopsis:

Q***r. Jewish. Trans. Climate apocalypse. Ghosts. What more could you want?

What happens when a climate disaster turns your whole world upside down? In Depart, Depart!, Noah Mishner, a young trans Jewish man, escapes a devastating hurricane and finds himself sheltering in a Dallas sports arena alongside other refugees—including members of the q***r community. But Noah soon begins seeing the ghost of his great-grandfather, a Holocaust refugee, who seems to have a message for him.

Part q***r horror, part Jewish family drama, and part dystopian adventure, Depart, Depart! is a wild ride about survival, identity, community, and finding your people when the world goes completely meshugga.
