This week’s parsha contains the first recorded Jewish protest for inclusion. The people who couldn’t bring the korban pesach (paschal sacrifice) refused to accept being excluded. They approached Moshe and boldly asked: “Why should we be left out?” (Bamidbar 9:7) Instead of saying “maybe next time,” they said “make room now.” And G-d listened.

In response to these protestors, the Torah introduces Pesach Sheni: a second Passover, created because the original system left someone behind.

This story is a reminder that when systems have left people out, we have not historically remained silent. We’ve spoken up. And we’ve celebrated when space was made for everyone.

Being told we don’t fit the mold. Being told to wait, or to hide, or that maybe next time we’ll belong – that’s not something we need to stand for. The gift of Pesach Sheni sends a clear message: if the system wasn’t built with you in mind, build something new. Not later—now.

A *second* Passover! A second chance. A radical act of inclusion. A little q***r joy, if you will, right there in the Torah.

Coming out can look like a dramatic speech, a text sent at 2 am, a new haircut, telling one trusted friend, or just finally being honest with yourself. There’s no “right” way to do it — what matters is what it means to you. Join us for an evening of storytelling, connection, and community as we share coming-out experiences in all their forms. Share your own coming out story, cheer others on, laugh, listen, and help create a space where every experience is welcome — whether you’ve been out forever, just came out yesterday, or are still figuring things out.

This week's Breakaway is Disability: What the Health? where we will talk about the intersection of q***rness and disability and navigating the world. All are welcome!
