The Treasure Box will celebrate its grand reopening after undergoing repairs necessitated by a recent car accident. This event marks a significant milestone in restoring the facility to its original condition and welcoming back the community. There will be sales and drawing held throughout the day.

That's how Avery Association for Exceptional Citizens started. This year marks 50 years of running a day program, a group home, and now a growing independent living service, all still headquartered right here in Avery County.

Six residents. One home. A lot of ordinary days that add up to something real.

Our Group Home is a seven-bedroom house on a wooded lot right here in Newland, staffed 24 hours a day. Clients work the day program to earn spending money, split cooking duty one night a week each, and have their own private bedroom to decorate however they like.

It's not a facility. It's home.

50 years doesn't happen by accident.

We had a great night celebrating five decades of service right here in Avery County, surrounded by our clients, staff, and the past and present board members who helped keep the doors open and the lights on through every season.

Yellow Mountain started with a handful of families who needed a place for their loved ones to belong, work, and live with dignity. Fifty years later, that core job hasn't changed. We’re still here doing the work, day in and day out.

To everyone who has served on our board, worked a shift, or supported our clients over the last 50 years: thank you for showing up.
