The review is now live!
My new article, Pressure Prescription in Blood Flow Restriction Training: Evaluating the Role of Arterial Occlusion Pressure, has been published in Frontiers in Sports and Active Living.
The review examines an important distinction in BFR practice: AOP can be a useful and defensible method for standardizing pressure, but it should not be treated as the soul determinant of safe or effective BFR application.
Pressure selection exists within a larger system that includes the cuff/device, limb characteristics, exercise programming, body position, monitoring, individual characteristics, and the response to training.
The goal is not to dismiss AOP. It is to consider its methodological value without overstating what a single resting vascular metric can tell us about the full exercise stimulus with regards to BFR.
The full article is open access through the attached link.
I welcome thoughtful discussion from clinicians, Coaches, researchers, and anyone using BFR in practice.
Blood flow restriction (BFR) training has consistently demonstrated the capacity to elicit meaningful physiological adaptations across clinical, rehabilitati...
