As the new school year approaches, re-establishing healthy routines can help children feel more secure, confident and prepared for the days ahead. Consistent schedules provide a sense of stability and predictability, which can reduce stress and support emotional well-being.

Tips for a Successful Routine Reset:
• Make gradual adjustments
Shift bedtimes and wake-up times by 15 minutes each day to help children ease back into a school-friendly schedule.
• Create tech-free sleep spaces
Keep electronics out of bedrooms to promote better sleep quality and healthier bedtime habits.
• Use visual reminders
A shared family calendar, daily checklist or routine chart can help children understand what to expect and encourage independence.

Remember, small changes can make a big difference when it comes to a child's behavioral and emotional health. As routines evolve with the season, we're here to support your family every step of the way. If you need guidance or support, don't hesitate to reach out to our team. https://bit.ly/465ccqz

While a back-to-school checklist can make sure your child has the right notebooks, folders and backpack, emotional preparedness is what truly helps them navigate the ups and downs of the school year. Here are three ways to strengthen your child's mental health toolkit this week:

• Practice problem-solving: Talk through potential social or academic challenges before they arise so your child feels more confident handling them.
• Encourage healthy boundaries: Help them find a balance between homework, extracurricular activities, and essential downtime.
• Validate their feelings: Let them know it's normal to feel nervous or anxious about new routines, teachers, or expectations.

Supporting your child's emotional well-being now can help set the stage for a successful school year. Need help with your child's behavioral or emotional needs? Our team is here to help. Call 757-461-4565 today or check our website, https://bit.ly/4wrY2La.

As students head back to school, they're adjusting to new routines, academic demands and social experiences. Supporting your child's mental wellness during this transition can make a big difference. Here are three simple ways to help:

Listen actively
Ask open-ended questions about their day, concerns and successes. Creating space for conversation helps children feel supported and understood.

Keep routines consistent
Prioritize healthy sleep habits and maintain predictable morning and evening routines to provide stability.

Watch for changes
Pay attention to sudden shifts in mood, sleep patterns, eating habits or behavior, as these may signal that your child needs additional support.

We're here to help your family navigate the back-to-school transition with confidence. If you need support, give us a call at 757-461-4565 or visit https://bit.ly/3Sspfzd.

July was a busy and impactful month for our Community Engagement team! Throughout the month, our team worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the vital services available at Kempsville Center, including our 24/7, same-day mental health crisis access for children and teens.
