13 weeks post ACL reconstruction- this is what you hope your athlete looks like. Thank you to him for all the hard work he put in!

Remember Everyone has their own specific rehab journey given tissues injured and individual physical features.

If your athlete is “limping” you need to regress and revisit exercises/activities (that should have be done) to prep them to run..

(ie. Single leg squats? Medial step downs? Marching? Sled pushes? Pogos? Wall supported stationary running? Etc.)

Continuing to run with compromised mechanics is likely going to lead to other injuries- patellar tendonitis, IT band syndrome, achilles tendonitis- just to name a few.

Not part of the plan, but ya work with what ya got.

Proud of this guy still working hard and working smart while he’s got some recovery time off the ice.

Hockey athlete 4 weeks post MCL injury

Note the various types of stress and loading through the MCL and the intimately related medial knee flexor tendons (semitendinosus, gracilis, sartorius) which are often also apart of the injury.

A peek inside one of our sessions. This stud has been working hard and it shows.

He’s Still not running/jogging yet, but there are plenty of exercises to help prep for the next phase of rehab when cleared. (If you’re athletes are “limping” the first time they jog/run, they are not ready or have not been appropriately prepared- this often leads to patellar tendonitis and/or other injuries during rehab)

Restoring strength is only a piece of the equation. Do not overlook the importance of addressing proprioceptive and neuromuscular deficits, fascial crimp, and tendon resiliency.

This stud gettin after it 8 weeks post ACL reconstruction.

Great functional strength for his timeline.

Don’t be discouraged if you’re not here- every person’s injury, repair, pre-injury status, and involved tissues influence post operative timelines.

And don’t get it twisted- ACL rehab is NOT about who can get the athletes back to play the fastest. The literature conclusively demonstrates significant increased risk of re-injury or injury to the contralateral side prior to 9 months- some reporting double the risk with each month prior (8 months = 2x, 7months = 4x, etc.)

Our job is not to get them back as fast as possible, but rather to help them get back better than they were before, and for this to not happen again!

Inspiration to keep moving and never quit. She’s had multiple issues and injuries through the years but refuses to let that force her to stop.

Also a warning to any chump thinking about mugging a grandma… not only is this one probably stronger than you, she’s a 5th degree blackbelt in hapkido. 😳

it would end in embarrassment and intense pain.

Dry Needling (not to be confused with Acupuncture out of respect for our Acupuncturist colleagues)

This is a little setup to help address inflammation. Note the placement of the negative electrodes relative to the positive to help encourage fluid proximally and medially into the lymphatics

(Because of the negatively charge ions in edema, placing the negatively charged electrode pushes fluid away- like repels like similar to magnets)

Two hockey players gettin after it during an “upper body” focused workout.

Clearly not doing bicep curls, bench press, or tricep extensions.

Proper linking through the “pillar” (hips/thorax/scapula) with relation to gravity is foundational to athletic success and basic human movement.

Are you training to move like a machine or a human???

Monday mornings at 7am these runners are getting after it.

You want to “improve” your running? Hit new PRs?
Do you work on the foundations to running?? (Core control, hip/pelvic stability, muscular recruitment/inhibition speed, strength, elasticity, tendon resilience and elasticity…?)

Crushing SL squats at 70yrs young!

Move outta the way leg press- SL squats not only strengthen extension fibers of the glutes, quads, and hammis, but enhance integration of our pelvic stabilizers (core, glute max/med/min, adductors) with ankle/foot stabilizers

Great example of what consistent, functional movement and strengthening can do for you over the course of your life!
