As fall arrives, make your own apple sauce. So simple & so yummy! ๐๐
6 large apples (peeled, cored, and chopped) โ use a mix of sweet and tart apples for balanced flavor
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup maple syrup or sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces.
2. Place the apples in the slow cooker, add the water, lemon juice, cinnamon (if using), and sweetener (if desired).
3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until the apples are very soft.
4. Once cooked, mash the apples for a chunky texture or use an immersion blender for smooth applesauce.
5. Stir in the vanilla extract (if using) after cooking for extra flavor.
6. Let the applesauce cool, then store in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for longer storage.
