When you grow your confidence using the eight phases … you're on your way to mastering the EMDR model.

You've graduated from EMDR Basic Training
You're working toward certification,

But do hours alone build the thing certification is really asking for?

Mastering the Model is a small EMDR certification consultation group. With just four therapists, one EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and five months, you're supported in layering skills and organizing cases so clients progress.

Demonstrate fidelity to the standard protocol and earn up to 10 consultation hours.
Through developmental feedback — build clinical 'muscle.'
It's led by Donna Hunter, M.A., CMHC — an EMDR Approved Consultant and Facilitator who thrives in the deep end of complex trauma and dissociation, and who can document your certification hours.

Fall 2026 · Saturdays 10–12 MT on Zoom · Aug–Dec · intentionally small, just 4 seats.

Are You Considering EMDR Certification?

The new 2026 EMDRIA standards finally describe what the consultation hours are supposed to feel like — not just what to count.

They name three things a consultant is doing at once and they're explicit that consultation is a developmental relationship, not an 'hours' transaction.

Issue 7 of The 51st Minute walks through what each one looks like in the room, what it asks of you in return, and how to interview a prospective consultant in an intro call.

It's for you if you've graduated Basic Training and considering the certification list of requirements, wondering what to do next.

Link is in the comments below.

Maybe you've seen this in your work.

Even though symptoms have diminished, if they re-emerge in a different form, it can be interpreted as backsliding.

What's going on?

Something else is happening. And it's one of the most clinically delicate windows in trauma therapy.

Issue 5 of The 51st Minute is live.

Three observations about fear in CPTSD clients (including the one I think most therapists misread) and why struggle after EMDR processing can shift.

It's the kind of issue that can help you make sense of what you're seeing.

The 51st Minute is what happens after the session.

You exhale after your last client leaves. Turning back to your desk, you toggle between half-finished notes, Candy Crush, and thinking about the last hour.

Eventually the questions start:

They looked calm… were they actually present?

Did I talk too much or push too soon?

Why does CPTSD present differently from client to client?

These questions are the work.

That's why I started The 51st Minute — a newsletter for what trauma therapists think about after the session ends.

If you're EMDR-trained, work integratively, and you're juggling insurance, documentation, and a full caseload while seeing clients with complex trauma — this is for you.

Because the complexity has patterns. And we can learn to see them.

For EMDR therapists working toward certification:
You completed Basic Training. You're seeing clients. And you're realizing that practicing EMDR confidently takes more than knowing the eight phases—it takes structured consultation on your actual cases.
Am I applying the protocol correctly?
Is this Phase 2 preparation enough?
How do I know how to sequence targets?
Previous participants moved from trained to certified—with the clinical confidence that matters more than the credential.
Led by an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant. 7.5 consultation hours toward certification. Limited to 4 therapists.
Next cohort starts February 20, 2026. 4 spots available.

I closed the book.

"She could be my client," I thought. Then immediately: "She IS my client."

I'd just finished Stephanie Foo's What My Bones Know: A Memoir of Healing from Complex Trauma. She described herself as a six-year-old, standing at attention, hands folded, while her mother dotted her homework with fierce X's. "Each progressive pen mark was a punch to the chest until I was barely breathing. Oh no, I'm so dumb. Oh no," she thought. Then her mother raised the plastic ruler and brought it down on her open palm: thwack.

She didn't cry. If her mother saw tears, she'd call her pathetic and do it again.

Her father wasn't any better. When overcome with personal demons, he'd drive them both into oncoming traffic, swerving away at the last moment.

Multiply these scenes by hundreds of others. That's how complex PTSD forms. That's what creates panic attacks, dissociation, and profound relationship struggles.

As a trauma therapist, confidentiality means I can't share the reality of a client's life.
But Stephanie Foo wrote it. The work after basic training? Learning how to actually implement trauma processing with the Stephanies who walk into your office weekly. Clients with dissociation. Attachment wounds. Developmental trauma requires you to modify and sequence EMDR.

Make the positive impact you want with the Stephanies on your caseload.
If you're a newly trained EMDR therapist ready to implement EMDR therapy for the real world, our January 2026 EMDR Certification consultation group starts soon.

🔐 Are You Overlooking This Key Zoom Privacy Setting?

Not all therapists are digital experts...I know I'm not. Toggle this, check that box, uncheck this box on THAT screen...I'm just celebrating my self-control in not sneaking out after dark to place the laptop in the road just waiting to record the satisfying 'crunch' it makes under car wheels. But in the end, the ease of toggling on End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) to do good work is a worthy reason not to be a digital thug.

Without it:
👉 Zoom can still decrypt and access your meeting content (to support features like transcription, analytics, or cloud recording).
👉 That means sensitive client and supervision discussions may not be as private as you think.

With E2EE enabled:
✅ Your session data is encrypted directly between you and your client.
✅ Not even Zoom can access it.

It only takes a few clicks to turn on — and it makes a world of difference in safeguarding trust.

✨🎓 Graduation Day Magic ✨🎓

This weekend we celebrated graduation day for the newest EMDR of Southern California Basic Training cohort.

These clinicians showed up fully to not just learn a trauma-transforming therapy but to recognize how trauma lives in the body, how dissociation complicates healing, and how attuned presence makes all the difference.

And they’re not stopping...

Consultation and clinical feedback are the key to making a positive impact with EMDR therapy. Because healing trauma isn’t a checkbox. It’s a lifelong craft.
