Many families come to us ready to make a decision, but their loved one isn't there yet — and that's one of the most common, most human parts of this process.

It's exactly where Kaylynn Bates, LMSW, comes in. As Santa Marta's continuing care coordinator, she doesn't rush families toward a decision. She helps them feel informed enough to make one together.

Read our latest blog post to learn how Kaylynn's background in social work helps families find clarity and comfort, even in the most difficult moments.

He picked up a pencil in his 40s while watching his kids play sports. Today, Bill Rose is one of Kansas City's most celebrated self-taught artists — and last month, he brought his story to Santa Marta.

More than 100 guests gathered in the Grand Hall for an evening of art, music, and a few signature blue margaritas — all organized by a group of Santa Marta residents who call themselves "Team Michelangelo." It was a full gallery experience, topped off by a conversation with the artist that no one wanted to end.

Read our latest blog post to see how it all came together.

Sixty years of marriage, a lifetime of giving back.

Santa Marta residents Bob and Shirley Chenoweth have never been short on ways to give back — and in 2023, their alma mater, Benedictine College took notice. The couple was honored at the college's annual Raven Reunion, becoming only the fourth husband-and-wife pair in history to receive awards in the same year.

From Shirley's prayer blanket ministry and visits to cancer patients, to Bob's decades of leadership in banking, Catholic cemeteries, and community boards — their lives reflect exactly the kind of faith-filled purpose that makes Santa Marta such a special place to call home.

We're so proud to have them here.

Several hundred alumni of Benedictine College returned to Atchison for the annual Raven Reunion June 2-4. The weekend featured the presentation of the Benet Awards, which honor prominent alumni. Corsages, balloons, disco balls, and dancing — Santa Marta's Prom Night had it all! 🪩

Our residents and staff celebrated "Dancing Through the Ages" in style, filling our community with laughter, music, and more than a few impressive moves.

Safe to say, this is one night nobody will be forgetting anytime soon.

Today we had the honor of witnessing something truly special.

Resident Jerry Stephenson, a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, was presented with two coins at the Lenexa VA Clinic — a Department of Veterans Affairs coin and a Secretary of Veterans Affairs coin bearing the name of Secretary Douglas A. Collins — along with a letter of appreciation personally signed by the Secretary himself.

Jerry, your service, sacrifice, and life well-lived are a source of deep gratitude and inspiration to all who know you.

A heartfelt thank you to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Kansas City VA Medical Center for honoring Jerry and the countless veterans who have given so much for this country.

Tax advantages may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of senior living, but for many, it's an important part of planning ahead!

Read our latest blog post to discover how a portion of your entrance fee and monthly service fees at a Life Care Community like Santa Marta may qualify as a tax-deductible medical expense — and how that fits into your broader financial picture.

Many are surprised a portion of Life Care Community fees may be tax deductible. Here's how it may factor into long-term planning.

This Memorial Day weekend, we are pausing to remember.

In honor of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, Santa Marta has set a Fallen Soldier Table — a solemn and beautiful tradition reminding us that an empty seat at the table carries the deepest meaning.

Every detail tells a story:
🕯️ A burning candle — the light of hope we carry for them
🌹 A single red rose — for their lives and the loved ones who miss them
🍋 A slice of lemon — for the bitter loss we carry
🧂 Salt — for the tears of families left behind
🥂 An inverted glass — for comrades who will never join us to toast again
🤍 A white tablecloth — for the purity of their service

"The table is set for one, symbolizing the singular life given in defense of our nation."

We are grateful. We will never forget.

Thank you to all who served, and to all the families who gave so much.

We were so grateful to welcome pianist and composer Eric Genuis and his companions to Santa Marta for an afternoon of live music that truly moved us all.

"The Eric Genuis & companions concert was outstanding. Maybe the best event ever." — Steve Bauer, Santa Marta resident

Moments like these are at the heart of life here — meaningful, memorable, and shared with the people you love most.
