Corsages, balloons, disco balls, and dancing — Santa Marta's Prom Night had it all! 🪩

Our residents and staff celebrated "Dancing Through the Ages" in style, filling our community with laughter, music, and more than a few impressive moves.

Safe to say, this is one night nobody will be forgetting anytime soon.

Today we had the honor of witnessing something truly special.

Resident Jerry Stephenson, a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, was presented with two coins at the Lenexa VA Clinic — a Department of Veterans Affairs coin and a Secretary of Veterans Affairs coin bearing the name of Secretary Douglas A. Collins — along with a letter of appreciation personally signed by the Secretary himself.

Jerry, your service, sacrifice, and life well-lived are a source of deep gratitude and inspiration to all who know you.

A heartfelt thank you to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Kansas City VA Medical Center for honoring Jerry and the countless veterans who have given so much for this country.

This Memorial Day weekend, we are pausing to remember.

In honor of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, Santa Marta has set a Fallen Soldier Table — a solemn and beautiful tradition reminding us that an empty seat at the table carries the deepest meaning.

Every detail tells a story:

🌹 A single red rose — for their lives and the loved ones who miss them
🍋 A slice of lemon — for the bitter loss we carry
🧂 Salt — for the tears of families left behind
🥂 An inverted glass — for comrades who will never join us to toast again
🤍 A white tablecloth — for the purity of their service

"The table is set for one, symbolizing the singular life given in defense of our nation."

We are grateful. We will never forget.

Our latest Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Kansas course — The Willows Maternity Sanitarium & Kansas City, Adoption Hub of America — has been captivating audiences with a truly remarkable piece of local history.
