The Y-Strap is what we call a long-axis distraction adjustment.

In plain English, it is a gentle pull along the length of the spine. The traction stretches the joints in the neck and upper back in a direction that hand-only adjustments cannot easily reach.

In clinical experience, distraction techniques tend to help when patients describe their tension as "deep," "stuck," or "compressed." Especially in the upper back and base of the neck. The technique adds an angle, not more force.

Force is not the variable that makes an adjustment effective. Direction is. A small, well-aimed input often does more than a bigger, less specific one.

We screen every patient before using the Y-Strap. Not every spine is a candidate. When it fits, it is one of the most efficient tools in the office.

If you want to know whether your tension pattern fits this technique, come in for a full exam.

Pain is not the problem. It is the language your body uses when something deeper needs attention.

Most people treat pain like an enemy. Numb it. Mask it. Push through it. I understand the instinct. Pain is loud and life keeps moving.

But pain is a messenger. It points to a joint that is not moving well, a nerve that is irritated, or tissue that is overworked. When you quiet the signal without addressing the source, the source keeps working.

In our office, the first job is to listen to what the pain is telling us. Where it shows up. When it shows up. What makes it better or worse. That story usually leads somewhere specific.

From there, we look at joint motion, posture, and movement patterns. We use hands-on adjustments, the Arthrostim instrument when a lighter input fits better, and tools like decompression or rehab when the case calls for it.

The goal is simple. Find the cause. Support the body. Let the signal calm down on its own.

If your pain keeps coming back, that is worth a closer look. Come in for an evaluation.

Research on dizziness has begun paying more attention to the role of the upper neck.

Studies estimate that a meaningful slice of chronic dizziness cases involve a cervical component, especially in patients who also have neck stiffness, headaches, or a history of whiplash.

Improving movement in the upper neck joints has been shown to reduce dizziness symptoms in many of these patients.

This is not a replacement for evaluating the inner ear or neurological causes, but it is an important piece of the puzzle that often gets missed.

If you have been chasing dizziness without answers and your neck has felt stiff or sore alongside it, it is worth getting checked. Dr. Moran can look at how your upper neck is moving and see if it could be feeding the symptom.

You catch a glimpse of yourself in a window and notice how far forward your head sits.

Or a family photo shows a curve in your upper back you did not realize had developed. This is one of the most common concerns patients quietly carry.

The good news is the spine responds to consistent care at every age. Dr. Moran has worked with many patients to soften the curve, restore better posture, and ease the neck and shoulder pain that usually comes with it.

If this has been on your mind, come in for a full evaluation.

You shrug it off when your back feels stiff in the morning.

You stretch it out when your neck feels tight after meetings. You take an over-the-counter pain reliever for that headache that keeps coming back.

Each of those small habits is a workaround for a signal your body is sending. The signals do not usually go away on their own. They get louder until they are impossible to ignore.

If any of these signs sound familiar, get checked before the body has to escalate. Dr. Moran can look at what is going on and help you stay ahead of it.

Pregnancy reshapes the spine in real time.

As the baby grows, the center of gravity shifts forward, the lower back curves more deeply, and the pelvis adjusts to make room.

Hormones soften the ligaments that normally hold the joints firmly in place, which is helpful for delivery but can leave the lower back, hips, and pelvis less stable along the way.

That combination is why so many expecting mothers feel a deep ache in the lower back, sharp pain in the hip, or pressure in the pelvis. Gentle, pregnancy-safe adjustments help the joints stay aligned as the body changes, which often reduces discomfort and improves how the mother moves through pregnancy.

A healthy spine is not built in the gym alone.

It is built in the small habits stacked across the day. Walking gives the joints rhythmic movement and feeds the discs through gentle compression and release.

Hip mobility work keeps the lower back from absorbing motion that should be happening at the hips. Core engagement supports the lower spine during everything from lifting to standing up.

Variety in movement, switching between sitting, standing, and walking, prevents any one position from dominating. The spine thrives when it is asked to do many small things rather than one big workout followed by hours of stillness.

You walk away from the fender bender feeling fine.

Two days later your neck is stiff, your head is pounding, and turning to check a blind spot feels wrong. This is one of the most common patterns after a crash.

People assume that if they felt okay at the scene, they are okay long term. The body tells a different story once the adrenaline fades.

If you have been in any kind of car collision recently, even a small one, get your neck looked at. Dr. Moran will check for the kind of injury that takes time to surface.
