The Y-Strap is what we call a long-axis distraction adjustment.
In plain English, it is a gentle pull along the length of the spine. The traction stretches the joints in the neck and upper back in a direction that hand-only adjustments cannot easily reach.
In clinical experience, distraction techniques tend to help when patients describe their tension as "deep," "stuck," or "compressed." Especially in the upper back and base of the neck. The technique adds an angle, not more force.
Force is not the variable that makes an adjustment effective. Direction is. A small, well-aimed input often does more than a bigger, less specific one.
We screen every patient before using the Y-Strap. Not every spine is a candidate. When it fits, it is one of the most efficient tools in the office.
If you want to know whether your tension pattern fits this technique, come in for a full exam.
